RE: Not sure how I feel about this......
I know what you mean. This kind of defense initiative would put major military installations around every major population center in the nation. One rogue General could cause the nation's collapse, or a megalomaniac President instituting martial law could have the same effect...
In principle it sounds fine. But I wonder how it would work in practice...

RE: Not sure how I feel about this......
Not just that, but the pandering.
Doug Wead, Ron Paul's campaign manager, said for Rand to win he had to unite the GOP evangelical wing with the libertarian wing. I think Rand is taking him *very* seriously. Ron Paul proved you can be a pro-life libertarian. But will the evangelicals take to marijuana legalization and (at minimum) state's rights on gay marriage?

The pandering you speak of is done by every politician out there. How else are they going to get elected, unless they pander to the majority?

Robert, you have nothing worthwhile to say. It's apparent to all. Why do you keep insisting on proving it?

THis board is entertainment for me. THere is no reason to try and have a conversation when there is no conversation to be had. They don't want to even listen to the other side of the argument. THey just call me a commie, socialist etc. and don't even bother to think. Ayn Rand is GTS's Jesus and what she says is gospel.

This I can agree with. But almost everyone with any political agenda ignores everything that doesn't agree with their agenda. This surprises you?

No. But I didn't realize the people on this board had a "political agenda". I thought this board was for the common man not politicians. I read and try to understand the posts of many of the people who don't agree with me(Dr. Torchy's not included). It may not seem like I do but I do. Some things sound plausable at face value.

Anyone arguing about politics has an agenda, even me. Although my agenda is proving that politics is futile, as long as people align themselves over single issues, which is what's happening right now all around us...

Honestly, I don't see any good reason for this. I'd disagree w/ Rand here. It could be done...but there's limited, if any, benefit.
Ron Paul did get some Evangelicals to listen, although mainstream GOP worked hard to undermine that by boosting Santorum and having Sekulow whore his services.
Rand could do well too. Evangelicals will listen to small gov't principles. But this is no guaranteed sell, plenty of GOP moralists want their position enforced by gov't too.
Pat Robertson conceded, so legalization of marijuana is not a deal killer anymore. That attacks on this are coming from the left now, one does wonder what this really means.
Paul's position on limited military involvement should be a big sell. It needs to be communicated well though. Too many people took offense at Ron Paul's comments. This is the big prize. And if it's true that Rush and Hannity are war-mongering chicken hawks, and they'll influence too many people away from reining in broad military reach, then the US will spend itself out regardless.
Gay marriage is the albatross. People have too short attention spans to understand the issue.

People have too short attention spans to understand most issues. They jump around like puppets on a string for the popular issue of the day, which is usually irrelevant in the big picture, while ignoring those things that are really important...

At least that's the hope of the folks in Washington, DC.

Say goodbye to the social liberals. Who exactly does he think is going to shoot rockets of the style Hamas uses at Washington DC? Fairfax County? This is pandering to crazy bible thumpers, the military suppliers, or (most likely) both. Ask him how much it's going to cost and who he wants to pay for it.

I am fine with a missile defense shield. But it should be akin to the old Soviet early alert radar system. We should be catching crap coming across the Pacific, across the Atlantic, and over the pole. That has real world practical value. City shields are as pointless and wasteful as city forts.
BTW, it is difficult for me to take self-proclaimed social liberal seriously these days if they still support Obama. Saying you are a social liberal who still supports Obama by his second term is akin to saying you're a fiscal conservative who still supports Dubya by his second term. You only destroy your own credibility and tell others you are incapable of critical thinking, clear reasoning, and you don't really pay attention to what is going on.
