We have been down this path a few times. Building was put together by incompetent people in Athletic Admin at the time. Designed and built around a track that was not even regulation in size. You could have made a much better building for a lot less.

NIU stadiums only need to meet the needs of Huskie Fans. Paying tens of millions of dollars for a big white elephant, with a good memory which does not compare to Chick Evans field house memories
is a historical mistake of epic proportions that should not be repeated.
Remember when NIU beat Wisconsin-Madison the year they went to the final four!
What is more important for NIU fans?
Impressing non-Huskie fans by losing in modern facilities or winning games in Spartan like environments?

NIU vs WIU athletic fee is $17.49 higher per semester for a 15 credit hour load.

That $17.49 happens to include a FBS football program for NIU instead of FCS for WIU.

Are you saying that we did not raise student tuition to pay for our convocation White elephant? What do these two schools charge for tuition?
No, not tuition.

"University officials approved the use of student fees as well as bond revenue funds"...

http://northernstar.info/city/article_01...57b03.html

Also since you asked about tuition
Per 15cr hr semester

NIU $4446.90
vs
WIU $4006.05

Its true though.

However it seems that NIU has learned its lesson with building stuff since then.

There's just no personality to it. Go look at the stadium BG built. Nice cozy basketball stadium. We're just playing in a big, dark, empty bowl.

It's too bad it was built before Phillips got there.

This. WIU was in even worse shape than NIU when he arrived (I don't think they've ever made the NCAAs), and he's turned them into a Summit leader after 3 or 4 years. It's his 3rd such remarkable rebuilding job, and it didn't happen overnight. I don't know if he would have wanted to come back to DeKalb though, being a retread, plus the fact he lives in Peoria and I don't think he wanted to move, so WIU was a more convenient final stop for him.

You have to give Montgomery 4 years. If after that time, with his own recruited seasoned players and distinctive culture in place, he's still not winning, then he should go.

Coach Molinari led us to the big dance. How many years has it been since NIU BB went to the Big dance?

I'm not saying he wouldn't have been a good hire. He would have. I've met the guy and went to several of his camps and have nothing but respect. I just think he's at the stage of his career (like Novak 10 years ago) where he's not as ambitious and may not have been willing to accept. When he took the WIU job he had two kids playing for Peoria Christian and WIU was a place they could play for him and he could commute from home. Just not sure he'd jump at the bump in salary and level to go to a place where he might not be welcomed back fondly.

In all reality, Coach Mo was one of the best B Ball coaches NIU ever had. His coaching style and firey defense is something thats been lacking. He packed the palace at Bradley and had students enllisting in the Molinarmy. Would love to have Coach Mo back.

Monty was a great hire by Compher. A great hire. If it doesn't work out, it still was a great hire.

My only question is how patient will Compher be if the basketball team has similar results in the first three years as Novak's first 3 football teams did.

I question how patient Monty will be if that's the case. In many ways, this situation is worse than what Novak inherited, and I fear Monty is already starting to wonder what other options are out there...03-banghead
Monty will get one more year for sure. The progress he has made is so small it is hard to measure. Is Nader or Bolin better this year? Is the team better? Does he have an outstanding recruiting class coming in? Who will he run off to free up some scholarships? Does he and the staff upcoach the players?

The team chemistry is worst than last year. MM had a great resume coming in and has shown us almost nothing. He looked like a beaten man Sat. night. He may be at the point of no return. I am sure his goal when he came here was 4-5 years then I am gone for the big buck program like DD. Nobody would touch him as a head coach now. I am sure MM people are asking around about moving on.

NIU75, You have totally lost your mind. Monty isn't thinking about moving on only 1 and a half years in. He is friends with Indiana's Tom Crean, I am sure Crean has told him to stick with his plan. For fans things have been bad for a long time, but not for the coaches and most of the players. Illinois St is 1-6 in conference with a team many thought could win the MVC and go to NCAA Tourney. Their coach is in his first year, should he be fired or just quit? SIU is 1-6 in conference, what should they do with their new coach?

I hope MM is talking to Tom Crean. Tom can explain to MM how the AAU pipeline works with recruits. Maybe MM can even hire an AAU coach’s son out of Chicago if JC lets him. Tom can also teach MM how to recruit 4 and 5 athletes on the national level. In reality, I would hope someday MM copies the Brad Stevens model of recruiting 3 or 4 star recruits and upcoaching the players to compete for the MAC championship. There is still hope but I see it slipping in the wrong direction this year. Like you, I want to see MM and NIU to succeed in the worst way but it has been a long 1.5 years. See you at the next home game to support our Huskies.

We do not have any rides until somebody leaves, which is a big possibility based on the direction of this season.

when coach kill was at SIU and losing he called coach novak for advice. coach novak told him to just believe in what he was doing. I see great similarites with the early novak days and the present bball situation. This is a real test for coach mm

RE: NIU versus Western Michigan
The game of basketball is not hard in principle. You need to put the ball through the hoop and do what you can to prevent the other team from doing it. If you do not excel in 3-point shots from the perimeter, then you need to take it to the basket. We have a very hard time with the low-percentage 3-pointers, and we have no inside game. Either there's something amiss with the coaching or we simply do not have MAC-caliber talent. In either case, it's quite sad.
