Football Recruiting: The 2009 class in review
Since recruiting is heating up, I thought I'd review our last 4 classes - using the star ratings from the Rivals site. This is for the 2009 class. My own player rating (based on their impact while playing at UAB) is:
a. A triple pound ### in front of their their name indicates an outstanding all-conference quality player.
b. A double pound ## indicates a multi-year high impact player.
c. A single pound # indicates that they were a regular starter or were an impact player for at least one season.

CNC signed 29 recruits in 2009, including 8 JUCOs.

2009 3-star recruits (Rivals rating):
1. ##Nick Adams (JUCO), WR: solid 3 year player, great senior season
2. #Hiram Atwater (JUCO), Safety: gave us one good year, head-case
3. Daniel Borne (JUCO), RB: modest impact in 2 years
4. Reginald Bryant, RB: never made it to campus
5. David Conner, S: never made it to campus
6. Amos Draper, DL: quit shortly after summer practice began
7. Joei Feigler, QB/P: never made it to campus
8. ###Chris Hubbard, OL: Four year player, All Conference-USA, superb
9. #Derek Slaughter (JUCO), DE/LB: Played for 2 years, modest impact
10. Justin Wells (JUCO), DT: played for 2 years, mostly as a back up
11. ##Danny White, LB: Solid impact in the years he played
12. #Darrion Wilson (JUCO), DE: played for 2 years, modest impact
13. Rashard Wynes, RB: never made it to campus

Of 13 three-star recruits, 5 never made it to campus and only 3 made a significant impact (Adams, Hubbard, White). Note that most 3-stars were JUCOs.

We signed 16 Rivals two-star or lower players in 2009. Six of those either never made it to campus or left the program after minimal impact (including Josh Zahn). The notable 2 stars included:

1. ###Marvin Burdette, LB: Set school record for tackles (Rivals 2 star because of height)
2. ##Greg Irvin, LB: Multi-year starter, impact player
3. #Patrick Bastien, LB: Starter last year and hopefully makes a more significant impact as a senior.
4. #Cornelius Richards, CB: Solid 2 year starter, modest impact, only CB with an interception this year.
5. #Kaycee Ike, OL: Started every game last year, solid but limited range in pass protection, one year remaining
6. Elliot McGaskin (JUCO), S: provided depth at safety for 2 years
7. Ed Pruitt, TE: minimal impact thus far, one year remaining
8. # Josh Zahn, K: one good year, one year of costing us multiple games
9. #Jonathan Perry, QB: late signee, one solid year, 0 star recruit
10. ##Patrick Hearn, WR: late signee, multi-year starter, impact career, 0 star recruit

In summary for the 2009 class:
1. Signed 13 Rivals three-star recruits, 8 who played, 7 who were regular starters, and 3 who made a signficant impact.
2. Signed 16 Rivals 2-star or 0-star recruits, 10 who stayed with the program, 8 who were regular starters for at least one season, and 3 who made significant impact.
3. Best players for the 2009 class were: Marvin Burdette, Chris Hubbard, Danny White, Greg Irvin, Nick Adams and Patrick Hearn
4. Of eight JUCOs (most of whom were rated 3-stars), only one made a significant impact, and it took him 3 years to have a notable season (Nick Adams).
5. Both high school 3-star recruits who made it to campus were high impact players (White and Hubbard).

Out of three three stars number five is a recruit this year he's at a MS JuCo. Number 11 should lead the defense this year, two star number 11 Jordan Longoria is still around I believe at TE.

Great read, thanks for doing the research. Since we can no longer give rep points, I highly suggest you stick a gold star on your keyboard.

Didn't know we were recruiting Conner out of JUCO. He would be a solid addition to our secondary, and probably about 23 years old by the time he got here.
