That is pretty embarrassing. I have to believe he knew she did not exist. It almost sounds like his family was supporting the story they knew not to be true. Either that, or this is one helluva con man to pull this off. Not sure what his motive would have been since there is no mention of money being sent anywhere - that is unless the cash from the fund raisers were providing him with some easy cash just by continuing to fabricate the existence of a woman. Still don't know how Te'o could not known this was a hoax

Saw a couple spots on that on the evening news tonight. Pretty weird.

He is a tool and everyone at ND trying to cover up for him are bigger tools. God I hate that school and everything they stand for.

Never hear do of this guy but if he's well known enough to have anyone care about this story you would think SOMEONE would have looked into it a little sooner- how hard is it to do research these days?

They did. The kid figured it out when he got a call from his "dead" girlfriend's phone number and he reported it to his coaches. Investigating began. This was around Christmas.

As difficult as it may be for us old geezers to get, this is the nature of cyber age relationships for our young. I had a bit of that schadenfreude going myself figuring it was an attention getting scheme but he was apparently a victim of a cruel joke.

I've learned a valuable lesson here. I've dumped my Russian internet girlfriend.

I don't get how he could call her his girlfriend since they never even met face to face. Internet girlfriend? Really? Everything about this is just too fishy. He is a con man just like so many others.

So you're telling me that ND's starting middle linebacker, all 6 ft+ 220+lbs of dashing, dark skinned, good looking dude, future NFLer, big man on campus, couldn't get a date on campus? Something is fishy, or this dude has some serious "lack-of-game" to contend with. He should be able to walk down the middle of campus and have beautiful, intelligent co-eds clinging to him like a magnet on my refrigerator.
