Exclamation NCAA FBS Conferences in 2014
This is how it appears it will look in 2014 in college football, at least until the next shoe drops. The only divisional format that is still in the air is the way in which the new Big Ten divisions will be constituted. What I have listed for the Big Ten is the geographical divisional set-up that has been discussed. In parenthesis after some teams is the conference in which those schools have departed since the latest round of realignment began, starting with the announcements of Colorado and Utah to the Pac 10 and Nebraska to the Big Ten in June 2010. The five "power conferences" made up of 64 schools are listed first, then the 57 schools making up the five lesser conferences, then the 6 independents.

Should have been Tulsa instead. I like Tulane as well. Great school in a great city, but their athletics are generally terrible and have been for the last 15 years (outside of some good baseball here and there).

Pretty much the case. You know they must be thrilled, especially UConn. Must be why there are rumors about UConn to the C7 in hoops.

The nBE or whatever it ends up being called won't last long. I don't give it even 5-6 years before it's canabalized or breaks up.

I think it remains intact. It will have a lot of money because of all the exit/entrance fees and even as schools depart to the ACC, they will still bring up others from C-USA.

Yep, no tradition, no rivialries, no stability, no trust, and not much chance of any of these developing....everyone wants out. None of the member institutions will put much effort into The Halfway House Conference because they are looking to move as soon as they can. Kind of like living in a rental property......Bowen just needs to position us for a better conference home and spend 75% of his time getting us there.

The sad fact is that unless the ACC gets ripped apart by the Big Ten, $EC and Big XII at pretty much the same time, our chances of moving out of the Big East (or whatever it will be called) are pretty much zero.

Best case scenario:
-North Carolina and Virginia move to the Big Ten. Big Ten done.
-North Carolina State and Virginia Tech move to the $EC. $EC done.
-Clemson and Florida State move to the Big XII. Big XII refuses to go beyond 12.
-ACC adds Cindy, UConn, Memphis, Temple, UCF and USF to get back to 14

If no other major blowups happen...

Big East very likely to pursue Tulsa...with Navy having a 12 team football conference.

Even the SD State and Boise remaining in the MWC makes some sense...overall...will be OK with that 12 team conference, especially if it stays the same for a while. Tulsa, Houston, SMU, Tulane, Memphis and Cincy in the West, UConn, Temple, Navy, ECarolina, UCF and USF in the East.

Very comparable to what CUSA would have been if Louisville and Cincy did not leave and we added SMU and UCF. 4 strong basketball programs.

The casualties were the WAC and Sun Belt. Stronger Sun Belt schools moving to CUSA.

Presidents voted, not ADs.

Presidents (especially BE and C7 presidents) have a long history of academic snobbery. Tulane fits the academic profile better than any school added.

Remember the griping by C7 schools after the "unanimous" vote? The ADs were complaining about not being consulted. Tells me that some presidents voted with no input from their Athl Depts.

At least that's the best I can figure.

Taking that list through conference USA is 88 teams.

There should be two more teams (Ark State and Troy) to bring that to 90 teams. That should be divided into 10 major conferences of 9 teams each that play true round robin schedules with champions advancing to playoffs.

14 teams in a league is ridiculous, you can go years without playing a member of your own conference.

Big 10 has 14, the Big XII has 10, enough already!

I don't guess I've ever seen it all together, but wow...things could be a lot worse. Check out who UAB will be playing in football. The Souther Miss side isn't much better, but imagine FIU, Charlotte, and Old Dominion as your home games.
