After he saw Kaepernick's success with the read-option, and the Patriots success with the hurry-up, he probably figured now was the time to get in...... before his innovations got copied and mastered by everyone else

Likely to promote from within, like Rutgers did after Schiano left last year. But with all that Nike money, they can afford to screw over another school.

Yeah, they seemed pretty sure the promotion would come from someone within the current organization. They've done a good thing with the program out there, why rock the boat if a very qualified guy is already under your roof?
