Wow - if that's a deal breaker, that's pretty weak. A track makes budgetary sense. I know - one of those minor sports - but here, it's been a tradition since the early 70's. Our team is running on a HS track and still winning conference titles. Don't know why I'm surprised about this sentiment... I've been to football games with stadiums equipped with a track & without, and if you cover the track and that's your sideline for your football team, your sightlines are good (you elevate the stands slightly) and it's not an issue at all. I'm not sure I even really noticed it. I'm not not precisely sure what Noland has in mind, but I think a track is a no brainer.

Obviously my two cents don't mean anything... The hill across the street from married student housing over looking the campus is desirable. I can see television scenes looking down on campus during the game. Still, near the dome is best. Parking is right there. It would be great to be familiar with Western Kentucky's stadium. It also makes use of a nearby parking garage.

Look what pops up on google... http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...ith+tracks

I've been in more stadiums than I can count and "most" are fields without tracks. One of the biggests gripes I hear at the ASU games (which I've been a regular attendee for the past three years and enjoy very much) is the track. The distance does get to be annoying esp when the teams are blocking some of the better sideline views due to the distance from the seating.

I don't really care one way or another. I'm going to win the lottery and be in my own luxury box. I used to think it was a wimps way to watch football but I've gotten attached to the Club seats! 06-football

how about adjacent to the parking garage behind warf-pick and extending to the first IM field?

sounds like a plan...

Track in the stadium. This has been passed by me several times. It will go on campus, and it will be the west side of campus. I expect Mike Smith to be a big donor. Don't know about others but I believe a lot of contacts have been made, locally and regionally.

That sounds like THE place. I like it. Press box would have great views of the mountains(think tv) and it would be easily walkable for students. The only thing I do not like is the track around it. The track can be made next to the soccer stadium. Our football stadium is going to small(to begin with) so let's keep the viewing experience of fans special to where people would love coming to see the games because they are really close to the field of play. I think we are getting somewhere now.

Have to admit that WKU stadium looks nice, including the cool-looking water tower.

I totally agree that a lot of schools have tracks around their football fields but I bet if they had to do it over they would not. If you go to Science Hill's new stadium there is an eight lane track around it. It is a nice track but the football stands are way off the field and there is no way to get close. I am glad everyone is having this discussion as I think that is a primo location for our football stadium.

RE: Let's talk football stadium
I agree with a majority of those here that dislike the idea of a track going around the football field. If building a new track is high priority then I would strongly encourage that the athletic department consider either placing it around the soccer field or creating its own space where the intramural fields currently are.

I have been to football stadiums with tracks and can say that the separation from the field to the stands makes the overall experience less enjoyable. I will high light it here one more time just in case some missed my statement.. TRACKS AROUND FOOTBALL FIELDS MAKE THE EXPERIENCE LESS ENJOYABLE.

I don't mean to push the track onto the soccer folks but when you put things is perspective, even though I am a soccer fan, I would rather make the experience less enjoyable for 500 people at the soccer stadium than for 15,000 people at a football game.

RE: Let's talk football stadium
It would be wise if ETSU sent a crew to WKU to investigate their stadium and find out what they did to create a football stir. WKU is a basketball school...that has discovered football while being a member of the Sun Belt Conference. I put the extra picture up because the first one didn't show the other side of the stadium. Football draws well at WKU and it will at ETSU when we get it back!

RE: Let's talk football stadium
Concerning stadium placement:
A stadium located on the east side of campus near the SoF and University Blvd intersections would likely provide the best atmosphere and game day experience. Walnut street offers potential for entertainment, bars, and restaurants that would support pre and post game activity. The west side of campus offers little more than a generic feel since it is surrounded by grocery stores, sandwich shops, and a strip mall; this area offers little opportunity for city development which constrains any chances of creating the right game day vibe.

East campus provides several desirable features:
1) The area is made up primarily of surface lots which means that little deconstruction or rearrangement is needed to meet space requirements for a new stadium.
2)Ample space for tailgating is available.
3) Offers close proximity to significant campus structures such as Library, Gilbreath, Roger stout, and alumni walk. Areas that are more accessible from the East side of campus and also desirable to be explored by alumni/family/friends.
4)close(er) proximity to downtown and walking distance to the walnut street corridor.

Wow Gold is trashing me on aesthetics... Based on??? Remember, Gold is a Kennesaw Fan. Oh wait, no he's not, he just asked to get back on here as a Buc Fan. Holy crap, what a child.

I'll go with a track on around the soccer field, as long as they can find a place for field events. If there's room, do it there, since you guys are throwing such a hissy fit about it.

It wouldn't be the first time I've noticed you have poor taste in aesthetics.

i like the idea of a track around the soccer practice field. putting a track there would mean they also have to put some stands there as well. this would help etsu soccer in that having a setup where 2 games can be played simultaneously, means that etsu can host regional high school tournys and increase revenue that way,,,,,,,,,,imagine having multiple revue streams from soccer

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

looking at the areal, closing off jack vest and utilizing the wide open space may prove to be the most practical

the east side of campus would work, but it might be unpopular to eat-up all that parking by the dorms and administration

another option would be if they were to demo and relocate the physical plant & use all that flat parking area just to the north of it. it would be convenient for the students and can have traffic access to both the boundry road and the middle of campus. that area, too, is kind of like a little valley,,,,,,,,screw south carolina, we d have our own "death valley." a new more modern physical plant complex could be built near the new parking garage in lot the 21 area, which logistically speaking, would put physical plant more towards the center of campus

you know at first I didn't think we'd have room anywhere on campus, but after reading some of the suggestions, it looks like we just might!
