Well we have the #1 scoring offense in C-USA and tied for 3rd in Conference only games. I am not overly worried about our offense, though whether the 3 pointers are dropping or not has a big effect on our point production because we depend quite heavily on them.
The problem is, we don't play defense either.
About half our games this year have followed the same script. Get down fairly big early, then go about basket for basket for the rest of the first half. Be down at halftime. Runs and counter runs for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Then start raining threes and wreaking havoc on defense.
In our 3 conference games we have been outscored 111-76 in the first half and have trailed all 3 games at half. We have outscored our opponents 143-110 in the second half and have scored more points than our opponent in each second half.
For all games we avg 33.6 points and allow an average of 32.9 in the first half. In the second half we average 43.8 points and allow 35.2 points.
It is frustrating (but somewhat fun) to watch but it doesn't work against the best opponents on the schedule (Charlotte, UNC, Memphis).

From what I heard on the radio, you guys made it rain 3s on us like we were shaking it in a strip club. While I was listening, you hit 8 after not hitting any in the first half.

Alright JMS; I can't let you off the hook that easy. You were kind of critical of ECU's schedule earlier this year and of the fact that ECU lost to Campbell. No doubt about it; ECU schedule was terrible and the loss to Campbell was bad; but as of this evening ECU's RPI is 94 and Memphis' is 56. ECU's SOS is 82 and Memphis' is 105. So technically those non D1 games didn't hurt anything except the perception of ECU.
BTW, don't be worried about the game in a few weeks, because by then you guys will have such a big lead in conference; that even if you guys lost you would still be a couple games up.
ECU's RPI SOS does not include the four games against non-D1 opponents. But that doesn't matter. Fact is, it appears ECU has a pretty good team, especially at home. And we all know what can happen at Minges, even with a bad ECU team. With a good one...it worries me.
As for Memphis taking a loss, we as Memphis fans want the Tigers to win out to get as good a seed as possible. It will be very difficult, but possible. Therefore, we don't need to lose at ECU or anywhere else.
I too noticed ECU's RPI climb after their win. The more C-USA teams in the top 100 of the RPI, the better. Tulsa is getting closer as well.
Not only did it climb, we were the biggest gainer, moving up 29 spots. But that means nothing if we lose next time out.

ECU's defense in the first half was pretty good BUT when you go 0-11 on 3's you open yourself up to long rebounds and fast breaks. Plus it is very demoralizing to the crowd and the team.
If we could consistently shoot 30% from the 3 point line we would have been up by 10 at the half last night. Probably 20 by games end.

Yep, gives Charlotte another Top 100 win. Keep it up Pirates!
