Mitch Kimble - 2013 QB
Kimble picked up an offer from Syracuse today, and NC State (Canada) is coming by school today likely to offer. I hope we can hold on to this kid. Carey is on his way down there today as well to try and keep him on board.

More info as I get it.

Wow....what a "business" this is.

Wonder if the Syracuse thing happened suddenly with Elmhursts Tim Lester joining their staff as QB coach.

Hopefully kid will want to stay local for family and friends to see play....

Something has been fishy with the recruitment of this kid from day 1. Hopefully if he is good we can hang onto him.

From the beginning, Kimble said Minnesota was where he wanted to go.

This would, however, be a huge feather in the cap of Rod Carey if he convinces him to stay! We will see if the Orange Bowl bid helps in this regard!

I really just depends on how far he wants to play from home.

If he goes to Syracuse or NC St then his parents/family will likely not get to see more than 1 game a year in person unless that team plays an OOC game vs the midwest.

NIU is still quite far from down state IL but its a reasonable drive for a few weeks a year that any (able) parent would make.

"FUN" as it may be for some to follow , we all understand recruiting is a dirty, underhanded , no holds barred , mud wrestling activity and not for the faint of heart fan.

Mix in all the other outside forces shaping a 17 yr old recruit's decision and a crap shoot offers better odds at predicting most outcomes in bidding wars.

It's why I prefer to minimize my attention to such shenanigans and wait until signing day and more importantly the first full academic year on campus and member of the team for recruits.

I'm with you cybes, but it will be hard to ignore all the "drama" until then with not much else going on.

Everybody's gonna win some and lose some.

Signing Day.... 3 weeks from tomorrow.

RE: Mitch Kimble - 2013 QB
Carey needs to point out that Kimble has always been our #1 target at QB while the new staff at NC State is frantically trying to assemble a recruiting class in the few days they have left. This happens every year with new staffs and I dare say some guys who jump at those offers regret it later when their school brings in two high school all-americans in the class behind them.

RE: Mitch Kimble - 2013 QB
I'm sure Carey is on the case. NIU has a lot more to offer than it did just a year ago. Facilities, IPF, and an Orange Bowl bid to boot. Guess in the next 3 weeks and in this situation we'll see what kind of a recruiter Carey really is. He has a lot more to sell kids on than his predessors did, and they won with what they had. Let's see what Carey and his new staff do.

Him and Kane both said during their Orange Bowl press conferences that their phones were ringing off the hook from recruits and that kids were now calling back that never even heard of them before. We'll let's see if they can close the deals as a staff.

To counteract this a thing not in our favor is we have 2 classes of QB's ahead of Kimble not even including Lynch. McIntosh and Hare/Williams so it could be a while before he plays here. An NC State probably can offer playing time a lot faster than that, which is a big thing kids look at.

My guess is we may not even get one QB out of this class at all which is ok. But next year we should be able to snag at least 1 if not 2 top of the line QB's with what we are currently selling. Including a major committ by the end of the summer.

Our coaching staffs are notoriously silent with who is on scholly and who isn't. They treat everyone the same regardless. So hard to see. You are right in thinking though this guy may be a backup plan should the other fall through.

If Kimble was going to be a Grey shirt this fall, join the team Jan 2014, then take a RS year he could compete to start at NIU for 3-4 seasons (2015-2018).

I don't see how that is not attractive.

Who's to say that McIntosh, Williams or Hare will be good enough and that a kid like Kimble if good enough could play as a red shirt freshman.

RE: Mitch Kimble - 2013 QB
So here is who he would be competing with in his class should he not go with us:

http://syracuse.scout.com/a.z?s=185&p=8&c=1&nid=6272624

No QB commits listed yet for NC State yet but they did have a 3 star QB in their 2012 class. Syracuse also didn't ink a QB in the 2012 class. Seems like the chance to compete and play would be there in both programs.
