It feels pretty good knowing that other conferences actually want to court ETSU to the prom.

I'm hoping for the Southern conference as things stand at present but the OVC has pretty high hopes when it comes to bball. It's gonna be tough decisions ahead.

It was posted earlier that the Big South "courted" ETSU, but the ETSU said no. Does anyone know when this occurred? Was it before or after the Big South added Longwood as its 12th school last year? If after, I'm wondering if the BSC anticipates losing someone.

Liberty wants to move to the FBS,and Coastal Carolina wants to move. So I think their scouting new members out.

$1000 is going to make you rich? Hmmm, perhaps you've been right all along. If that amount of money will go far enough to make you rich in the Paris of Appalachia, maybe it IS better to live in Pittsburgh than the tricities.

The Big South is not where we want to land...not even short term.

Not only that, but let's get a grip.

As of right now, ETSU is NOT a football school. There are some promising rumors, but that's all they are right now.

I too remain optimistic, but the reality of the situation is this might be the weakest ETSU has ever been in an attempt to move to a better conference.

Things move very fast these days. Look at UNCC, South Alabama, Ga State, ODU, plus all the new programs at the various other levels. A new football program can be up and running rapid fire. Why not ETSU for a change? Why not ETSU on a fast track for a change? Instead of, "it can't be done at ETSU", why not, "let's get this done at ETSU and get back in this game ASAP"?

RE: A New Conference Affiliation
No, because I think football will be announced and a new conference will come to.

But what I am saying is right now, it hasn't. And if I'm a conference weighing in on who to select, I might just want to say "Uh, tell you what. Let's see you announce football first and your game plan there before we start considering you as a football school. There's this school over here with a team, or who has already announced the sport is coming back, and you just have a buzz around town."

Now, if you think that's being a contrarian, so be it. I can see why that would be thought of that way to a man who lacks basic writing skills.

But I, and hopefully everyone else, would like to think that's actually being objective and analyzing the facts instead of waving pom poms and saying "It's coming back! It's coming back!" like your new friend theposterformerlyknownasthedoctorbutalwaysknownaslongwindedandinsane did back in 2007.

Now, pray tell, what crow did I have to eat on the Mullins' ouster?

Stop bending the shaft, Slap. Stop bending the shaft.

What? In 2007 I might have said football is coming back, yes. And I've always *known* it would. Never wavered from that. Most others did, too, but no one has known when, save for knowing that after that botched vote, stanton needed to leave first. Never have I given a date, or year, for it's return. (All this, of course, *if* you're somehow referring to me above.)
And I'm hardly a "pom pom waver", even if my legs *are* pretty nice. Hardly, indeed.

That's fine. Your comment back then seemed to indicate it would come back then, and to say that such a comment protects you from being wrong about that because there was no time frame is very interesting, but hardly uncommon for you.

RE: A New Conference Affiliation
I will say it is not a done deal, and here's why.

I could see an announcement being made. But the only thing that will prevent football from returning is out of ETSU's control, and that's fan apathy.

Now, hopefully fans will get behind an ETSU movement to make athletics more big time. I'm not saying they won't.

But I do think it will take more than the wave of Brian Noland's magic wand to make this happen. Johnson City, Tennessee has got to want it to happen.

You're more than welcome to go back and try and find something you think I wrote that intimated it was coming back immediately. It won't be there.....
I've never shied away from admitting I'm wrong on those occasions when that's been the case. "Truth, justice, and the American Way", and all that, you know. The truth will set you free, as the saying goes. You ought to look into that mode of action sometime.

And as to your last post immediately above this one, you're misreading the multitude of tea leaves on display. Noland is not acting on his own. Nothing could be further from the truth. More will come out....

Johnson City, Tennessee did not rise up en masse and revolt when stanton killed football. The media did not create a rallying cry. There was no expose of the lie that there was a 'real' fundraising effort to save football. The spineless Pirate Club was cowed into inaction. There was no social media then to fan the flames. For some unknown reason, even your charming, persuasive, all-powerful voice wasn't listened to. (Shocking, I know...) Football *was* killed. Point being....Johnson City, Tennessee does not *know* that it needs college football. They don't know they need a performing arts center. Etc. Johnson City, Tennessee, for all it's positive attributes, *as a whole*, does not "get it". That's what Noland *does* get: that Johnson City, Tennessee needs to be *led* to the altar - needs to be *shown* what it needs. He sees and recognizes the gap between what is, and what could be. Sander sees that, too. stanton definitely didn't get it, or at least was impotent to even try to make that kind of thing come to pass, with the exception of the pharmacy school.
And although Johnson City, Tennessee as a whole needs to be taught what it needs, there are enough people - those with some cash and some influence - that will stand with Noland and help *show* Johnson City, Tennessee a better way - a path to a brighter future.

It's almost like a "if you build it, they will come" philosophy. Not exactly, because that's not the same motive. But that's the part where Johnson City, Tennessee comes in. With a nice ball park, and the opportunity to watch and play, they'll walk in from out of the cornfield. It won't happen all at once, and it won't be with a magic wand, but with the media getting on board, and many other factors that we all know about, it can come together. I don't know exactly what it'll look like, and neither does anyone else, including Noland. But at least he has a vision of what "better" can be, in this context.
