Not surprising, we're the only show in town. I didn't listen but I`m betting this story was just a blip on Bill Meade's show today. Before I flipped it he was talking 2001 Heisman voting.

When I tuned in it was an extended speech about UT's free throw shooting. Tuned out.

I have to tell you, the one thing that can kill ETSU's athletic growth, and by that I mean restarting football and growing along the lines of the Marshalls and South Floridas I talk about, is local apathy.

You can have all the quality inside people in the world but if the fans don't care, then it ain't gonna grow.

Ten years ago I went off on the locals because the decision to drop football at ETSU drew fewer letters to the editor to the Johnson City Press than closing the Picadilly cafeteria did (remember that board vets?).

We saw a poll in the Press a month ago and a good many people- half- thought that ETSU shouldn't be in the football business.

And a losing basketball team isn't going to produce the kind of feel good needed to reverse that.

This is why I always say the Tri-Cities are such a lousy sports area. Good music area. Good political area. Good area for allergy doctors to move to.

Sports fans? Not so much.

So, what you are suggesting is that Picadilly should replace Aramark as our concessions vendor? ha

Don't dismiss what I am writing there.

The Piccadilly closing got more letters to the editor than the demise of ETSU football.
