I don't know if it's actually been condemned, "mothballed" might be a better description. You're right though, it's no longer in use. The land that it's on is part of a Fairgrounds development project that's covered multiple phases and will take what seems like forever to complete. It includes several projects.....

4) Tulsa: 4,455
5) UCF: 4,424
6) ECU: 4,414
7) Southern Miss: 4,174
8) UAB: 4,111
9) Houston: 3,808
10) SMU: 3,211
11) Tulane: 1,800
12) Rice: 1,449

UTEP attendance should start going up. After a horrible 1-4 start, looks like interest will go up too. I thought after the Tulane win on the road, we might get at least 10,000 last night but unfortunately, we only had 8,500. Its all about winning though. If we can find a way to beat Tulsa on Wednesday, then we might see the 10,000 plus on saturday against SMU.

Just to put UTEP's 8,000+ attendance in perspective, of the 7 Catholic programs that left the BE because they were too "elite" for the incoming southern schools, the Miner's attendance is equal to or more than 4 of the 7.

Additionally, I haven't done any research but I'd think that the Miners also have as many or more national championships as at least 4 of the 7 also.

Not that any of the above means anything in all of this, except that evidently "elite" sometimes looks different when some folks look in the mirror.

Believe UTEP has always been 2nd behind Memphis in CUSA Hoop Attendance since they joined the conf back in 2005. (Maybe Tulsa squeaked ahead of UTEP for 1 year).

RE: CUSA Basketball Attendance Rankings for 2012-2013 through Jan 12th
I think and hope that you will see a continued increase in Southern Miss attendance. Thus far we have only played 6 home games (Western Kentucky, Denver, Grambling St., William Carey, Dillard, and Houston). Grambling St., William Carey, Dillard, and Houston were all played during the Christmas break(students started back today), plus William Carey and Dillard are NAIA teams.
The attendance for WKU - 7,097; Denver - 3,597; Houston - 4,198. Those 3 games avg. out to 4,964. That should be our minimal goal for avg. attendance at the end of the season. I think these 3 games are more representative of what we will see for our remaining home games.
I suspect that our mid-week games will be in the 3500-4000 range and our weekend games should be in the 4-5,000 range. I really think the UAB game next weekend will have close to 6,000 and I am sure the Memphis game in February will be close to, if not a sell-out (our gym only holds 8,095).

Tulsa's attendance has stayed near last year's 30 year low. There is renewed interest, but we have a very young, very injury plagued roster. I think attendance will climb this year & next. It should be 6 - 8,000 again in a couple years.

TU is a few years away from averaging 8K+ fans a game again.
But I suspect w/ UTEP, S Miss, UAB, Houston, & SMU
still 2 play @ home,
TU u could draw a few 6K+ fans for some of those games

Interestingly how Houston/SMU
Located w/n Top 10 Metro population areas
are on the lower bottom half on attendance #’s

Even w/ Larry Brown “resurgence”
SMU continues 2 struggle
w/n getting any type of following of interest in the Dallas Metro Area.

Prv post said thank you to a succinct response....

I just don't understand attendance posts....w/l posts I do understand...maybe they are somewhat related?

We drew same/more in the 80s to early 90s than we draw now....makes me sad...and GA tickets are a whopping 10 bucks...15 for chairback

....maybe outside of MEM, it is lack of national conference team recognition that creates this for the casual fan....still blame it on the lack of marketing by the university...and lack of facility upgrades

...over the last 5 years it is not lack of talent....some blame LE but 1 dollar tickets for William Carey and Forrest General buying en masse for first home game is the only reason our early numbers are up

....I trust the General to do what is necessary to make RG rock like it used to...he hired the coach and has improved the marketing process...just will take some time

....hoping the students take us over 7K avg for remaining games...b/c we have the talent

...gonna say it one more time...Wed night games kill us due to the baptists in the region

Most UTEP fans stay away from non-conference games or games that have no interest or bearing on our season. Let me explain: If we were to play let's say Louisville at home for ooc then you could expect a full house but otherwise like last year when we played a future cusa team in ootsa no one showed up. They did beat us but we couldn't have cared less. With cusa play now we can expect at least 8,000 and will probably average 10k. Impressive numbers for some but not for Memphis fans which I can see why.

Actually conf. single game tickets are $16 for bench seats and $20 for chairbacks. $40 for courtside if there are any remaining.
There are no GA tickets except for the student section.

MEM hoops attendance is akin to ECU football attendance...head and shoulders above the rest, but does not translate to W for ECU as it does W for MEM...is why I don't get the posting of these numbers for discussion...I mean, what does this really mean other than market value which ECU/MEM both lacked in being invited to nBE 4 and 5...maybe it is the lack of sight by nBE? I am really trying to figure this out and cannot. I mean, hell, Larry Brown is coach at SMU and can't bring numbers up to any reasonable level....maybe we should just post box scores from games and debate....help me out with this.

I can only do so much. My one body (plus the 2-3 I bring) can't put us above 2k. Tulane needs a winner. Now.

my mistake to not differentiate...always knew the MEM (or any high profile game i.e. UM) tickets were higher but thought they were the same (OOC/Conf)....have had season tix for awhile...maybe we should reduce cost per customer through other revenue methodology (e.g. business absorb 1/3 customer 2/3)...the money is in this town...tap into the LSU/UM doctors for christ sakes...squeeze them...it's not like they don't have it

Ok...since you don't, maybe best to avoid threads all together that have the following subject lines like:

CUSA Basketball Attendance Rankings for 2012-2013 through Jan 12th

No one forces you to open/read every single thread on this board...and maybe its best to just ignore those threads/subjects you don't like and/or don't understand.
