FORTY FIVE missed three pointers in a row...
0-13 against Memphis, 0-23 against UCF, and 0-9 in the final minutes against Dayton.

Way too much shooting off of the dribble. Way too little shooting off of the pass.

Way too much dribbling, period. It seems that every player on the team, with the exception of Fahro, puts the ball to the floor as soon as they receive a pass, and on top of that, ninety percent of the time, the outside shooters fail to square up to the basket when they receive the pass, therefore diminishing the opportunity to shoot off of the pass.

Poor fundamentals.

Yep...0 for the last 42.

Missed 3-pointers at the 0:19, 0:24, 0:43, 0:55, 6:37, and 7:54 mark of the Dayton game. Last made at the 9:47 mark.

Unless we make one in the 1st 13 seconds of the Southern Miss game, we'll have gone 50 consecutive minutes without a 3.

As often as I have griped about Davis, I'll give him this one. If he had a pet peeve offensively, it was catching the ball and making that reflexive dribble. I've seen him go off, have a foaming cussing fit, because a player kept doing that when he was repeatedly coached up about it.

It's a coaching issue, and I'm sure that the coaching staff is more aware of the problem than we are, and working to find a way to improve it. That 0-42 has to be just killing everyone on and around the team, from the head coach to the last guy on the bench.

There are several technique problems that younger players see on TV sports and make a habit of doing in play. They dribble off the pass in basketball, leave their feet to dive to make plays or slide down to catch a pass in football and some others. They get away with it in "kid ball" but it drives high school and college coaches crazy. Nothing is more madding than a post player who stops to dribble before putting up a shot since this gives the opponent a chance to react to his play. I wonder how much coaching time is used up trying to break habits the kids pick up from watching the guys on TV?

I know 42 missed in a row is an anomaly, but I think outside of Swing, this team is pretty devoid of any shooting prowess.

Do any of the guys we have coming in next year who will be immediately ready to play look like they can light it up from outside?
