That's what I'm saying, NOT ENOUGH.

And a little child shall lead them......

Blazerlou get in touch with marketing and become a student intern. You would be a great addition.

(And once you get there, tell them to work on the advertising campaign.)

RE: Memphis game and thoughts
MB, I agree with the sentiment that you have to use timeouts, halftimes, etc. to exhibit school spirit and get the crowd ramped up. However, the t shirt promotions, cannons, bobblehead giveaways, posters (still have my mike anderson, oliver robinson, and ronnell/donnell bobble heads and squeaky height calendar) that excite the casual, on the border UAB fans. These things do get people's interest up for the games. And while I like our I65 "Haase fast" billboard, our advertising has really slacked off during the last 2 coaching regimes (I'm including Haase in this as well).

Just to be frank, if you put a mediocre product on the court, offer no exciting advertising, or no promotions to interest people, who would want to come to the games? It's ultimately the product on the court that puts butts in the seats, but the extraneous stuff was fun, exciting, and creates memories (the t shirts, giveaways, posters, items caught from the blimps/cannons that people keep).

The boredom, stagnation, and doldrums-like atmosphere permeated this program for the last 5-6 years. I think Haase's hiring and some of the new advertising are getting us back in the right direction. But the extra stuff that everyone seems to demonize here would definitely help, also.

Yep, David Stern was on the plane headed to Birmingham when he learned the whole thing was a 13 year old playing on his computer.

And I refuse to type in blue

It's funny cause you guys really think that you know everything about marketing and advertising and the blazers and all these sarcastic remarks are annoying as hell. I was actually apart of the NBA Birmingham campaign and because I'm 16 I don't have the resources you guys might have. But people like y'all never want to step up and maybe make a difference. And then I see all these jokes and stuff about the shirts and halftime and posters etc. but that seriously could affect a new fan. And then the student intern and checkbook why the heck do y'all think its funny? Maybe if y'all would take a step out of your comfort zone you could do something different for the community. I respect everyone on here Paul, MB, Blazerman, Blazergrad88, etc but I really wish someone like me who would do anything to improve uab athletics would do so as well.

That's exactly what I was going for. Thank you for someone who understands.

My memories are of victories, not the time I got the t-shirt and we lost.

one of the first rules of advertising and promotions is to get the product right first. Until then, most all of your efforts are wasted because if you do get soemone to try your product and its not "as advertised" it costs more to try to get that person as a customer again. Do you really believe that what we're seeing on the court is really representative what we want UAB hoops to be?

I believe that a few billboards on major highways are keeping the brand in the public eye but any major marketing efforts should be saved until we get our act together.

I don't know. I have plenty of bad memories involving a "Beat Memphis" t-shirt.

Speaking of bad advertising:

"You have seen fast. But you've never seen Haase-fast."

Never liked that line and they based the entire marketing campaign on it.

I got a t-shirt from the cannon the night the football team lost to MissStake in OT.

I never even reached for one again.

I wanted to know, who was the last director of marketing before Brad Smith? Anyone know? Just curious.
