The irony of the "new NFL QB"
Ironic, that for most of my life the Lions were searching for a good NFL pocket passer. So now they have one, and everyone is moving to a mobile QB who can run the ball as well, i.e. Capernick, Newton, RG, and Luck and Rogers to some extent.
Imagine if Tebow could even pass a little bit. Every team would be after him.

I was just thinking the same thing the other day; how conventional "wisdom " required that nfl qb's be tall drop back guys, and running ability was almost irrelevant because teams didnt want to take the chance of getting the qb hurt by running him anyway. Now, after a few good running qb's have shattered that "conventional wisdom " everyone is going to want a running qb, as long as he can pass too (thus leaving denard Robinson out of the analysis).
The moral of the story is that conventional wisdom in football is almost always exactly opposite of what is true. The concept of passing in general was at one time considered something you do only to throw the defense off now and then.

Let's see how long the trend lasts.
Kaepernick has played half a season.
RG III's already (seriously) injured.
Newton's played two good halves of seasons without a winning record.
Wilson's had a great season.
Luck and Rogers run on designed Roll outs or Boots (mostly because their OLs suck), not on Read-Option plays.

IMO the owners are not as concerned about qb injuries. If they get a great year out of one with a bunch of wins they are happy. There is always another player waiting in the wings who gets a smaller paycheck to take his place.

Right on the money. Running qb's don't last, and three of these guys have great arms which aren't that common.
