RE: Refurbishing Huskie Stadium
After the IPC and the jumbotron, the next most likely improvement will be a redo of the pressbox with improved club seating and maybe a few suites. This can be done on the west side by simply adding pylons behind the current stands and building atop them. Gutting the west side is a much more involved project, but may be doable after 2015 when the bonds for the east side are paid off.

This is a case where we may want to see how much we can raise before renderings or a plan are released.

This includes just about a 100% gutting the West stands other than the wrestling and gymnastic rooms along with a structure/entryway built behind but connecting to HS that would hold the high rollers and ADA bathrooms/concession stands for the upper 1/3rd of the stadium.

i havd a rendering of the renovation of the underside of the west side that was done by Gerald O'Dell. It was a nice reno

thats crazy. The west side is in very good shape, its the underneath that needs to get fan friendly. The west side was built to be a multi purpose facility. When I was at niu, we had to take 2 hrs of PE and I had several classes in the stadium. I think the fact that it is heated has helped to preserve it

Before renovation or replacement is discussed, an engineering study would have be to made regarding the expected life span of the West Grandstand. Keep in mind that we're talking about an open structure that's been exposed to the elements for 48 years. Steel and even concrete can deteriorate significantly over that length of time.

It was a booklet, kind of like the ones prepared for the Yorden and IPF. I am sure I have it in my archieves which are not easy to get to.

if anyone has the NIU 1966 orange incoming freshman catalog, ther is a section on the football stadium that says it can be expanded to seat 50,000. NIU 70 you have that catalog

Yeah, that sounds like the 1994 Northern Advantage booklet. Most of that is posted in post #7 in the History thread.

RE: Refurbishing Huskie Stadium
Here are some pictures of the West Grandstand at Infocision Stadium. It opened in 2009 at a cost of $60 million for the complete stadium. If the cost of the Infocision West Grandstand was $30-40 million, I'd say building a new structure would be worth considering as opposed to a renovation of the Huskie Stadium West Grandstand.

Times, aspirations and visions change.

Remember way back when Pres Peters stated NIU would not get itself into an "ams race" regarding athletic facilities...?

And that BUM SQUAD in Akron has that nice place? What NIU's defense giving up 21 pts in the 4th quarter got them....damn I still remember getting ready to go out that night, heading to the shower with the game in the bag, and walking back to my room hearing everyone in the Sig Pi house screaming about the implosion that was occuring....

At the bare minimum we need...

Renovated and additional bathrooms

Renovated and better placed concessions

8+ private suites

1 new presidential suite

200+ club seats (outdoor ok but covered)

New media deck for all current media needs for NIU football AND IHSA championship football games.

Currently, skybox seats are $1,000 for the season. If they can come up with some sort of club seating with access to dedicated concessions/bathrooms for around $500 - $600, I will sign up the day they go on sale.
