RE: 2013 Preseason College: Predicting Non-BCS Teams to Bust Polls

If everyone else plays squeaky clean, then it will come down to blow outs. Something we have never really done, but may have to if we want to return to the BCS show and prove that we belong with the "big boys." We have to show that our strength of schedule is weak, even in our eyes.
If OSU is not sanctioned, wouldn't NIU just drop to #16 and still be ahead of the Big East winner? Are you assuming Nebraska doesn't drop below us?
If NIU went undefeated and Lynch has another stellar year, I'd feel pretty comfortable about getting into a BCS game next year, regardless of what else happens. Iowa and Purdue on the road, only five home games, and already decent name recognition, it's no SEC murderer's row, but it's probably enough to get in unless a different non-AQ team goes undefeated with a tougher OOC schedule.

Nebraska wouldn't have had that embarrassing loss to Wisky. Even if they got destroyed by OSU, it would be an undefeated OSU, not a 5 loss Wisky.

It's great that the program has reached a point where we can have a legit chance at a BCS Bowl game. However what happened this year was the longest of long shots.
Winning the MAC for a third consecutive year will not be easy and would be a remarkable achievement that we should all be proud of. That said, it is sure fun to dream,

Yep, 3 in a row has not happened very often in the MAC, and not recently.

four in a row is the record with six consecutive appearances all by Marshall. Its kind of cool that every MAC team has gone to the championship game (except EMU). I think this goes to show what a well rounded competitive conference we have.

Miami won 3 in a row early 70's and Toledo 3 in a row in the late 70's. Like you said 4 in a row for Marshall and 5 in 6 years, speaking of Marshall, what ever happened to them?

EMU, when did they join MAC?

I guess the MAC had balls at one point. Wish this would resurface again...

Not sure we win 2011 if not for losing in 2010.

I am suprised the schools admin and faculty does not try to drop down a level on a financial basis. EMU would be more competitive if they dropped down too FCS.

Yes, because undefeated is always better than not. But, you run the risk of never being able to rise high enough in the polls to qualify in the top 16. Ball St was staring down that barrel in 2008 before they s#*t the bed in the MACC (and then in the Go Daddy.... and then for two years after that)
... and that is why we also need to root for some other MAC teams to get OOC quality victories. We can always benefit from a late season victory over a MAC rival that had previously taken down an AQ school. The polls are about perception and, right or wrong, these victories by proxy can help. For that matter, we all should root for Purdue and Iowa to have stellar seasons (aside from the week we play them, of course).
Lots of external factors fell in the Huskies favor to put them into the OB in 2012. It also helped that numerous MAC teams scored upsets against BCS teams, and they all lost to the Huskies. (except BGSU)
If NIU has an identical year in 2013 -in other words- they lose to Iowa by one and then win their next 12, they probably will not go BCS, unless Iowa and Purdue play each other in the B1G championship game.
