Do we really need almost 300 wheelchair spaces? I understand it is mandated, but I have been to many sold out sporting events/concerts/etc... and I have never seen 300 people in wheelchairs there. It just seems like governmental overkill.

Law of unitended consequences.

That is why the Coliseum had issues with ADA. Despite having more than enough FLOOR level seating for handicapped, the ADA required there to be handicapped seating in the upper bowl, too.

I've never seen Belgian, but I'm assured they exist.

Adding bike lanes to city streets might seem like a waste, but maybe if there had always been bike lanes, you'd already have more bikers.

Yep. I sit in some seats in the Terrace at FEF for Grizzlies games regularly that overlook one of the Handicap Accessible seating areas. I have never once seen more than 2 people in wheelchairs in those seats, and the majority of the seats are just older people, and even then those seats are very often empty. Never seen all the folding chairs filled except during the playoff games.

How many times have you seen 62,000 at the Liberty Bowl? Lots of overkill there --- and Federal law requires a certain percentage of all seats be available to disabled folks. God forbid if Walmart shoppers become Tiger fans.

Also --- Only the most physically fit person in a wheelchair can make it up the grade on those ramps leading into the seating area.

So you're saying I'm backwards for thinking that 300 wheelchair spaces is about 200 too many? Good point I guess.

Its going to take a while for bikers to feel comfortable on those lanes. So many drivers are clueless to them and it scares me to use them.

your thinking is backwards because it is the law .. if you want to go to washington and spend the time and effort to change the law to define 'reasonable' in a more reasonable way .. that's great ... if not, realize that the law is in place -- and for legal reasons there has to be 300 wheelchair seats in the Liberty Bowl ..

I should have been more specific. I didn't mean I had been to many sold out events at the Liberty Bowl. I meant at different venues.

hence the comment government overkill

I know it had to happen. I am complaining. Everyone else on here complains about something, why can't I?

And when there's a game with enough interest to draw 62,000 able bodied fans --- I feel pretty confident the 300 disabled seats will be filled. If the city doesn't want to comply simply get rid of some of those 62,000 seats. It's been 23 years.

My sister had cerebral palsy and attended Southern Cal. I went out to visit a few times and they had tons of access for those who needed wheelchairs or other assistance. I got to see several games sitting by her side, the most memorable one was OK-USC in the Jamel Holloway/Keith Jackson and Rodney Pete era.

I have always been amazed at the number of capacity requirements they ask for in the ADA deals, but maybe if you build it they will come. Is there anything that would keep people who are temporarily injured or ill from using those?

And yet we whine and complain because we never get any WalMart money from our former Tiger who is married to a WalMart heiress.
