I'm going to say attendance was in the low 60's, and NIU fans were say 45%- that means huskie s fans were in the high twentys- close to 30,000.

The NIU-adjacent "stubhub" sections were too mixed for it to be that high.

The Huskies gave Florida State a run for their money in the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl. Hundreds of NIU friends and alumni made the trip to Miami to watch the historic game, as well as more than 1,000 students who made the trip in a caravan of 26 buses. These students' trips were made possible by more than $30,000 of donations from proud NIU alumni.

Must have had the anti-Carl Sagan writing the article.

That was obviously a gross error. There were hundreds just in my hotel. Maybe that's what they meant - those that went on the tour package.

We took 4 buses from our hotel, or about 200.

RE: OB NIU Fans How Many?
How many of those donated tickets went to NIU fans or went to stubhub and were then purchased by NIU fans? Not a lot of empty seats in that corner, and it seemed to be all Huskie Red.

RE: OB NIU Fans How Many?
The 2K plus tickets that were given to students I think were paid for by the Alumni Association? At least that's the idea I got based on the "thank you video" from the students to the Alums posted on facebook.

Can anyone confirm this?

So, IF NIU distributed 15,000 tickets and a lot of people bought from outside of NIU...we easily had over 20,000 fans there...or more. We represented very very well. 04-rock

RE: OB NIU Fans How Many?
I'd say easily 25K were NIU fans, probably closer to 30K inside the stadium. Most people I talked to on the concourse by the big bar were there supporting NIU due to family or friends who went/go to NIU. The few Seminole fans that were in front of me (Sec 114 Row 24) stated that they were "embarrassed' by how few FSU fans made it to the game. They also said that it wasn't due to HerbstreitGate, more that they were upset with their own team and where they were. They started season as a possible contender for the crystal ball, and their defense held up as they were ranked #2 I believe at time of the OB. It was their erratic offense and play calling from Jimbo Fisher that seemed to let FSU down overall and those facts alone have a lot of Seminole nation not exactly fired up to attend the OB. They defiantly were impressed by our team and turnout for the game though. Until the 4th Q they weren't thinking this was a walk in the park by any means. Perhaps if Lynch connected on those two deep balls, abandoned the Option up the middle which FSU ate up early, and Lynch didn't go Favre on that INT, I feel we could've taken them, no doubt. Overall great experience, and showing by NIU and our fans!!

PS... Herbstreit still sucks. 03-nutkick I watched the BCS Champ game with a Bama fan down there....THAT game was a "Total joke". Funny how I never heard Herbie say anything like that about ND, even after the first 6min of that game.

AND...a couple non calls or bad calls by the refs like the OBVIOUS pass interference not called that would have put us close to the 2 yard line and could have turned into a TD. Or the bad call that TommyLee fumbled...even tho BOTH of his knees were down when the ball came out. Game changers! If our O had played better..not been so tight...who knows.

NIU fans showed up in droves & represented very well...no doubt! Just super glad that I was part of that!
