But why not schedule FAU, FIU, Troy, UAB, So AL, UNT, TX St, UTSA, UNLV, NM, NM St or Rice instead? All are in better recruiting area and are bottom half non-AQ teams.

Something to think about is whether they would want Chicago in their TV network. Chicago vs Tulsa? Can never underestimate the power of $$$.

There is not one single advantage of going to the Big East and about 3 or 4 big disadvantages with the biggest being immense immense immense travel budgets that NIU cannot afford. Besides, there is better football being played in the MAC than the Big East right, AT BEST, it is a lateral move. Lateral moves do not makes sense when so there is so much cost to incur. And besides any conference that has its teams strung out so far apart from one another is doomed to fail anyway.
