Texas A & M: 2013 NCAA National Champions and you dont' think the 'Bama players don't really know that deep inside? Think again.

As opposed to a one off game a month or more after the regular season ends? I would say a playoff makes you get up for 3 or more games instead of one single game, plus you can't spend that much time prepping for you next opponent.

I'm not saying it would have mattered last night, but let a team sit around for a month or more and who the hell knows what you'll get on the field.

I will say this, I don't know or anyone who preps his team better for a bowl game than Saban. Dude has it down to an art.

LOL! Johnny Football would run circles around this "urban" tale called Ohio State.

Can you believe he was one of 160,000 high schoolers playing Texas High School Football (I say those 4 words with reverence and as a THSF alum) who almost got over-looked? Just like Drew Bries got over-looked in the Lone Star State?

The CUSA schools who have good talent evaluators outside the 3, 4 or 5 star players in Texas high schools are the ones who can build the next Boise State. The same in Louisiana and Florida, too. NOTE: Go back 10 or so years ago and see just how low BSU's recruiting classes were ranked nationally for proof on how effective the Broncos coaches were as evaluators of talent with kids with 1, 2 or no Rivals stars.

GMG!

Replacing who? Undefeated Notre Dame or the team beating them by 35? And don't say a playoff, the system isn't currently set up like that.

Either one, because Bama lost to then #15 Texas A&M in their house by a larger margin than Oregon lost to then #13 Stanford in their house.

Notre Dame was overrated to begin with, but thank goodess we didn't see a National Title game of Ohio State and Notre Dame.

My mother was born in Alabama so I do have a soft spot for the Crimson Tide but....................now do the NCAA powers that be know there should really be an 8 or 16 team play-off.

And why in the hell is the national media almost to the person pulling for freakin' Notre Dame for popes sake?

At least a 16 team playoff, though I prefer the FCS model. A&M finished 9th in the BCS so they likely would not have even made the tournament if it were 8 teams. Clearly, the national championship should be open to the teams that are playing the best at the time and not shut out to teams that lost games early before gelling. That is the one thing I hate about college football. Unless you are in the SEC, your season is over if you lose a game, and if you are in the SEC, your season is over if you lose 2 games.

Yeah the giants were the best team that year. Thats life you're not ganraunteed to win every game. So if you're 15-1 team and you get beat by a 9-5 team then you really are not the best.

Its called "playing the game".

The thing about having a FAIR playoff (i.e. you win your conference/division or finish high enough to receive a berth) is that you control your own destiny. The best team wins only about half the time (except in the NBA where it's about 75% because of the long series) but in college football it's a caste system where there are too few games to get separation from the pack, there's no ability to grow as a team after a slow start and to really to get a large enough sample of teams playing teams from around the country to gauge the conferences against one another.

In a real playoff you know what group of teams you have to play from Day ONE, all things are virtually equal, you have a playoff position you earned through the course of the season that gives you a fair chance, prominence of teams isn't assumed and even when it is (e.g. NCAAT seeding) it can be overcome (e.g. Butler, VCU, George Mason) because they have a fair shot at doing so. The latter two though may be an example of a playoff being too big and allowing undeserving teams a chance to win a title.

Bottom line is that in a fair playoff, you have no one to blame but yourself. since you control your own destiny before and during it.

Southern Miss can't even come up with a long trip, roundabout way to claim the title. No wins makes it too hard to figure.

Bama would beat A&M 8 out of 10 times on a neutral-field and 9 out of 10 times in Tuscaloosa. The Aggies are living off of the 1 out of 10 times where everything went right for them.

Determining who the best team in any league is always subjective and, as shown in this thread, rarely unanimous. As such, the best any league can do is crown a Champion. Sometimes the champion is the best team, often times it is not. A playoff is the best objective way to determine a champion when there are a limited amount of regular season games and a large number of participants (as opposed to a regular season champion in which all teams play each other, preferably home and away). Arguing who was the best team will always occur. Arguing who the champion is only occurs in flawed systems like the BCS.

By that logic (the same as the OP) the 5-11 Redskins were the best team that year, since they went 2-0 against the Giants.
