Cincy area player on Notre Dame roster
I checked the ND stats. Of the six Cincinnati area player on the ND roster it appears that only Jarrett Grace gets on the field in any frequency. He backs up Mantio at the LB spot plus special team play. Junior Andy Hendrix has played in 3 games and thown 7 passes this year an is listed as a Backup QB. Junior Luke Massa is listed as a WR but has not caught a pass this year. Junior Junior Tate Nickoles is listed as a OT but does not appear on the depth chart. Junior TE Alex Welch has not caught a pass as yet. So the six cincy guy's will get a great education but very little playing time in their years at ND.
One could only wonder what might have been if they had choose to go to UC and play.

You just answered part of it, they get a great education. In addition, those Cincinnati prospects played in the GCL, which is going to give ND an edge recruiting-wise, all things being equal.

Honestly, it would probably be about the same. TE was pretty much all Kelce's, so Welch might not have seen much PT. Hendrix would not be playing at UC over Butch's boy Munchie or a 5th year senior in Kay. Massa was a QB recruit, so same situation as Hendrix. Nichols might have cracked the 2 deep here, but he has been injured this season so he hasn't played at ND. Grace would have probably played here, but hard to tell if he would have see more time here than at ND.

Welch tore up his knee before the start of the season otherwise I think he would have played some this year.

Austin Collinsworth probably would've seen some time at DB. He's an ace on special teams, though.

We recruited him as a WR I think.

So did ND, He's a non starting DB and special teams player now.. Injured in Spring 2012, out for most if not all
season.

Grace played at Colerain.

Luke Massa had an injury in April 2012 and did not play this year

Quote:The prognosis is less favorable for Massa, who suffered what Kelly said was an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament that would likely require surgery.

I dont expect he'll get much significant playing time in his career. FWIW he is one of the players that signal in plays from the sideline (#14).
