Glad that I didn't play an office pool this time, I'd have had my ass handed to me. I haven't updated my bowl schedule printout yet, so I don't have an accurate count of my W-L record in picking bowl winners this year, but I know it's nowhere near good. How did the rest of you do?

I have been correct 100% of the time.
Of course that is because I see the cereal box before I pour it into the bowl.

I expect my record to remain the same.

Not really interested in the bowl games as a whole.

I have watched one or two whenever it intrigued me.

I have gotten 20 right and completed the sweep of the Blazertalk Pick'em for both the regular season and the exhibition season...

The TRUE National Championship! This is how you determine one, on the field by putting a select number of teams in a bracket and let them go at it week by week until only two are left standing.

My overall W-L record this year in picking bowl winners: 17-14 Not counting the mythical national championship game tonight, of which I will not be watching!!!

It was perfect. My prediction was that every bowl game would be irrelevant, so why watch them.

"IRRELEVANT" is the favorite descriptive for the plethora of bowl games by those who feel there are too many and too accepting of poorer teams. Actually this is totally true if relevance is related to the BCS NC. If that is the parameter, then there is at best only ONE relevant game and that is tonight and all others are a waste of TV time.

My feeling goes back to the original purpose of the bowls. It allowed the play of college teams who normally could never play each other due to time of travel restraints imposed by busses and trains. The holiday period allowed time to travel from east to west to play in the Rose Bowl or to Florida to play in Miami's Orange Bowl or New Orleans or Dallas for theirs. As more bowls were created, the opportunity for other teams to similarly play nontraditional opponents has expanded the field. It was never expected that any bowl game would become a "do over" like we had last year. As the number of bowl games grew, they were elevated to being a factor in the mythical NC and gave rise to the BCS NC we have today.

If you only consider any bowl game as a current example of what they were supposed to be from their beginnings, it is still worth watching the teams play since they usually don't get to schedule each other during the regular season.

Trivia question - How many of Bama's NCs were "won" prior to a loss in a subsequent bowl game which was not considered at that time?

I finished 27-8 for the whole Bowl season. ECU, LSU, Iowa State, Central Michigan, Rutgers, West Virginia, USC, and UCLA were me teams that took the "Ls".

That is damn impressive! Congratulations. I remember when this town had 2 newspapers and one of them used to have a weekly contest called "Pigskin Predictions" & "Pick The Pros", where you'd fill out on a printed form who would win on a given week game by game, and they gave a $$$$ jackpot to the winner that grew every week if there were no winners in the previous week.

Closest I came to actually winning or being in contention for a big jackpot (at that time, anything over $1,000 was considered movin' on up!) fizzled out when Uve Von Schamann of OU missed a chip shot FG late in a game that would have won it for them - & perhaps for me.

I remember it like it was yesterday, you talk about being ???! Those were the days...
