MAC Windfall Payouts ($)
I'm kind of reluctant to get into this for fear of putting out inaccurate information, but...
As fans who are into this kind of stuff (not recruiting, not Xs and Os, etc.) but the MAC stands to be a big winner with NIU's appearance in the Orange Bowl.
MAC is to get 8M directly as an non-AQ team playing in a BCS bowl. MAC should get a total payout, including this 8M, of around 12 or 13M, from BCS as their share of the BCS monies.
(MAC gets 8M for NIU's appearance. Then they receive 1/5 of N million dollars which is shared equally by all non-AQ conferences. And then receive a sliding share of another pot determined by how each of the 5 non-AQ conferences rank vis-a-vis the other non-AQ conferences).
MAC has announced that the MAC presidents have voted to distribute those monies.
My guess is that the MAC might distribute as much as say 10M of that with the other 2 or 3M + the other bowl payouts being used to cover expenses of the 7 MAC bowl teams.
I wouldn't be surprised to see each MAC team get a payout (windfall) of say 500 - 750K.
I wonder if anyone can verify this.
EMU fans know that these monies would be the equivalent of over 50K tickets to either a FB or men's basketball games.
FWIW, I believe conferences like the MAC will get essentially 1M per school per year from the new playoff bowl system starting in 2014, I believe.
I believe this is based on revenue projections so it might not be set in concrete.
Wonder if CMadler or someone could confirm.
Kind of wish we had a conduit with the EMU AD so we could ask and get answers to these kind of questions.
