ESPN's Andrea Adelson
ESPN's Andrea Adelson thinks the Big East name should go with the BBall schools and says the FB schools should start new.

http://espn.go.com/blog/bigeast

"I think the Big East name should go with the basketball schools and the football members should get a new name, to break free and start fresh. I think the Big East name serves as a constant reminder of what used to be. A new name will help re-branding and marketing efforts and maybe get people to stop talking about the past."

I honestly don't know why the football schools would even want the name. For football, the Big East has a stigma they should be enthusiastic to be able to be rid of.

I agree 100%. It's best for them to let the C7 have it.

It's best for them to sell it to the basketball schools.

We'll take it for right price. How much are the FB schools willing to give the c7 to take the name off their hands?

If the FB schools keep the name, it would be perceived as a joke. If the BB schools buy it, it will accurately reflect continuity from the conference that 5 of them have been in for over 30 years, and that 2 of them have been in for 8 years. Just a matter of finding the price.

The C7 should get the Big East name even if they have to pay a little extra for it. They're the core of the conference once the 1-A schools left. 4 of them are charter members, 1 was practically a charter member and the other 2 are clearly true fits.

That is not a completely silly idea. You could have the "Big East American Conference" and the "Big East National Conference."

Be like Coca-Cola, "Big East Classic" and "New Big East" or "Big East 2"?

And I'm going to go ahead and be first with "Big East Zero."

Honestly, with all the changes in conference membership and how willingly every throws away decades of tradition for $1 million more a year in TV revenue... just save time and name it the "Fox Conference (Presented by Pepsi)" Or "Pepsi Conference (On Fox!)"

RE: ESPN's Andrea Adelson
I agree that we should sell it. But if the C-7 isn't willing to pay for it, I see no reason why we shouldn't keep it.

It IS worth something to us. It's still a better football brand name than the WAC, MAC, Sun Belt, or C-USA. And we will still have a decent basketball conference that could use the BE brand name to help boost our appeal. IWhile it's worth more to the C-7 and we should be willing to sell it to them, we're not going to give it away for free.

Some good jokes on this thread. Keep it going!

As for the Big East name, I agree it makes no sense for the Aresco League to hold on to it. I also think that the Aresco League and the C7 can successfully mediate a fair $$$-value for the rights to the Big East name and the C7 can then pay that $$$. I honestly don't know what a fair value would be but get some lawyers and marketing-types to hash it out for a few days and see what they come up with.
