$88K to $120-$150K (picking up from Dunbar) to ???

Anybody wanna guess what he's getting as HC?

Carey possibly also got the $100k bonus that was in DD contract for coaching the BCS game.

I would like at the 100K as reward for "getting team to BCS & coacching the game".

My guess is he didn't get 100K but got an amount that both he and NIU felt was fair.

It's been a good year to be Rod Carey.

I am fairly sure that Tuke was paid JK's contracted bowl bonus along with his standard assistant coaches bowl bonus for being a position coach.

That said, can we use some of our recent windfalls towards assistants? I would think if we could break $750,000 across a few assistants for five years we will be in good shape.

The ROI should be noticeable and start to feed itself.

We need to keep a head coach for awhile.

agreed, but we can't compete with the big dogs. even if we gave Carey a quarter of Doeren's buyout each year plus his salary we'd still be lucky to keep him for four years:

$400,000 base pay (estimate)
$187,500 quarter of Doeren's buyout
=======
$587,500 per year for four years.

If we can get our OC, DC and a few key assistants up to the $150,000 mark, we can stabilize the program for a longer period, improving our chances of a return BCS bid and improved attendance.

Just because we cannot keep up with the big dogs does not mean we should milk our FB program and spend money on athletic lights and BB .

We should re-invest what we earned on the FB program into the FB program to expect any hope of similar results.

most schools are really over paying for HC and assts. Is the Def Cood at Alabama who probably makes 700,000, 7 times better then our guy. Is Tim Beckman at UI worth $2 mill per yr. Ya think Beckman would have taked $1mill. Its out of control and it hurts us.

Yep. It is messed up.

Still, if we pay bottom dollar, no way we can expect to remain top dog in the MAC. To be a decent springboard you still need to pay properly.
We are still competing against MAC schools and other non BCS teams.
Coaches salary is more important then a new score board or lights for the track and field team. Looks like Compher is killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Thanks for the post! we should be #1, by over $100 000.
With DD's buy out and a chance to repeat in the BCS now is not the time to cut back on the FB program.

AD Compher said that he will use most of the buyout for facility improvements...lights for the soccer field/track, improvements to the women's tennis locker rooms and hopefully lights for the baseball field.

+1
That are sorely needed to improve each of the programs.
