The sarcasm font
For years we here at Blazertalk have struggled with how best to express sarcasm. Someone comes out with a snide, sarcastic remark that they think is obvious sarcasm, and the half of the next dozen posts take them to task for saying such a stupid thing while the other six call them idiots for not understanding that it was snark.

I have a proposal for a new convention in posting here to express sarcasm in a more obvious and detectable way.

In the reply box, at the top, there is a pull down for font, text size, and beside that there is a capital A underlined. If you click on that pulldown, you get a menu for color posting. I propose this: in the future if you are being deliberately sarcastic and don't want to take friendly fire, post it in blue. If everyone understands that to be the signal, then we can finally fix the problem.

Examples:

I posted in blue, now no one can possibly misunderstand that I was being sarcastic.

Once the BSC game is over, we'll finally stop hearing idiot bammers yammering about it all over local sports radio.

What do you think? It's only going to work if we both agree to use it and actually *do* use it.

Sort of defeats the purpose of sarcasm though. The most effective sarcasm is almost undetectable.

A better solution? How about people just say what they mean.

This idea sucks.

Really? They're only being morons because of Birmingham Southern College? Whew, I though they were just born brain-damaged.

BTW, just type in

RE: The sarcasm font
What really sucks is that if you try and put the word sarcasm in brackets

You can't see it because it gets treated as html.

So instead you have to do the (sarcasm) thing.

I like the idea.

I love watching SEC teams in the National Championship game.

I'm so happy the NHL may start up again.

I agree with Demiveeman. (No I'm not being sarcastic). The fun of sarcasm is watching the reaction it evokes from those who don't detect it. A font takes that away.
