Negative: (like Louisville) Memphis gave up 52 points in the 2nd half to UTk. Bad to a team than can barely average that an entire game. Either mental lapse or fatigue. Same issue with UoL--59 points given up in the 2nd half.

If this team could ever put together 30 minutes of complete basketball...wow.

Can't say how it looked on TV but being there it seemed Memphis played pretty tough D the whole game, maybe a little less intensity for part of the 2nd half but not much - and that likely because of a 21 pt lead & foul trouble for our effective big - Goodwin. But it was that lead that had UTK play a more agressive style putting up contested 3s rather than keep going inside. McRae & Richardson just got hot & it closed the gap. Even so, only 2-3 of those UTK 3s were uncontested. So yes, for 2-3 times down the floor Memphis defense was not as good as it was otherwise throughout the game. But I wouldn't call that a let down, it's just the way thing average out. Teams who shoot poorly one half generally find a way to improve in the 2nd or vice-versa as the defense improves or remains unchanged.

Normally, but UTK has shot poorly every half of every game they have played this season except for the 2nd half against us.

If we are going by averages, well they didnt shoot their average in the 2nd half.

RE: Ok, so why did the Tigers win?
we won because we played with poise in a hostile place when the HOME team made a run at a frantic pace late
we made our FT's and hit some big shots when we needed to
UT as Memtigbb pointed out shot lights out the last 6 minutes
we won and thats the bottom line....

There were also a handful of possessions where we didn't do a good job of stopping the ball handler in transition.

That was my impression too, but some people just need to whine about something.

RE: Ok, so why did the Tigers win?
TN's run amounted to this:

Tarik was out and when Shaq picked up his 4th foul and went to the bench, and we had to go small. At the same time, they had some shooters get hot, and being at home, they picked up quite a bit of momentum.

I don't think our defense was necessarily poor during that stretch under the circumstances. They just had shots falling and ours weren't. Basketball is a game of runs. We had ours, and they had theirs. Honestly, Geron's two huge shots falling were our saving grace. The momentum had really swung back the other way.
