Notre Dame would seemingly have to pay a steep exit penalty from the ACC. Probably not worth it. Also, as good as the Big East would be, the ACC would be better.

And Gonzaga just makes very little sense to me. If you want 16, add Duquesne and Detroit to be bottom feeders that are in good markets.

Start with the C7 and add Xavier, Butler, and Creighton and wait at 10 for a few years.

If/when the ACC is picked apart, Duke, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame will need a home.

Add those 3 and one of Dayton or SLU to reach 14.

Nothing concrete that I can tell. The Creighton beat writer for the Omaha World Herald has received a "no comment" from the President and AD ever since the C7 said they were leaving. However, he also got a "it's premature" to comment on the subject from a spokesman for our President a few days ago. That might be a "hint" or it might be reading too much in between the lines....who knows, I wish we could find out soon cause I haven't been very productive lately...
