Bearcats Media Relations
I've been thinking about this topic for sometime and wouldn't normally post a topic like this on the main board but wanted to share some thoughts on the Athletic Departments Media Relations/Announcers.

Dan Hoard - without a doubt he is a great person to have involved with Cincinnati Bearcat broadcasting. He is knowledgeable, charismatic and emotes on a level that will pump a fan up while listening to a broadcast. The University has been lucky to keep him so involved with him also being under contract with the Bengals and Boston Red Sox Pawtucket franchise. I couldn't be happier. He is obviously someone with "BCS" talent as well as NFL and (for now) minor league baseball talent level. The University may eventually lose him to the BoSox, he has said at least in the past that would be his "dream job".

Unfortunately I think the University could do much better than Tom Gelehrter. I'm sure many of you have met him as have I and he is very nice, personable guy you want to succeed... however I don't think he is a "BCS" level talent. I dont believe he brings a level of excitement to broadcasts and the Foxsports Ohio show he hosts about Bearcat sports is a snoozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzer.... He was hired from Akron and frankly I think the University could do much better.

If you have traveled and heard the broadcasts of other SEC, B12, etc. University announcers and Directors of Media do games, studio shows, etc. there is no comparison.

I hope that eventually Whit looks to upgrade the University's media relations; thoughts?

RE: Bearcats Media Relations
He was hired here to be the Director of New Media, a job he does very well. The broadcasting stuff just kind of got thrown in on top of his other duties. We are not going to pay to hire someone else to come in and do the broadcasting and coach's show stuff. He is extremely good at his primary job, the other stuff he has gotten better at.

RE: Bearcats Media Relations
I beg to differ, the Belk Bowl shows on Foxsports Ohio sucked. Have you seen the level of shows/broadcasting other Universities do..?

If he's great at his job do that, the programs (Football, Basketball) need a better broadcaster and sports show host.

EDIT: I'll add I find the job he does broadcasting similar to the job I felt MT did as AD. I think we've all witnessed the upgrade we've had under Whit... and if you think of the upgrade the University could have with another Dan Hoard versus Tommy G I think it's a no-brainer. I tend to compare the Universities performance to other BCS Universities.

I think the amount of content that has come out of the athletic department since he was hired has been great. MUCH better than it used to be. I think his broadcasting skills is equivalent to the people who do the ESPN3 games... which is basically what the FSN Ohio games are. I have no issues with him. I also think he is the best ambassador to the UC community from within the athletic department there is. He controls the facebook and twitter accounts, and his personal account is great too.

I think he does a pretty good job doing both - he is probably working with limited resources. On a side note it would be nice if UC could send us another Mike Waddell type of guy that would post on the board frequently.
