Also, it was reported that there were 200 more police officers at the game.

I was wondering why all the additional officers were needed.

Was the city afraid of something?

Possibly getting a black eye over something?

Couple of interesting notes.

First win for Ole Miss in Birmingham since 1926 when the beat Auburn (they should have played UAB in a home and home)

Compass Bowl outdrew the Sugar Bowl. As much as I hate bowls, I love that stat.

Thanks to all the the OLE MISS and Pitt fans who made the trip to Birmingham. 59K looked great in the old worn out stadium.

Traffic was a mess but I still made it home by 4:30

I avoided all of the traffic today. I take the back route that I take anytime I go to Legion Field which is through Fountain Heights and down by Tuggle Elementary school, down Center Street, make a right and I come down the hill by Peyton Place. You avoid all traffic and the whole trip is less than 8-minutes.

I attended a funeral today but otherwise would have been interested in going to the game, not interested enough to pay money for a ticket mind you, but interested enough if I had a freebie.

I'm glad the attendance was good and hope the bowl continues to do well.

Great turnout. Enjoyable atmosphere. Back streets had me in and out within 15 minutes both ways. Very good for Birmingham.

We need a tutorial conducted by the two who had no trouble with the traffic since so many DID. We had a look at what it might become in the future when UAB begins to really get its football act together and people really begin to come out for our games.

No problem. We've been taking the same route since I was a kid. Very few people unless their familiar with the area know the route because its through neighborhoods away from any main roads outside of Center Street.

Surprised BPD didn't have a better traffic plan in place. It seems there was a breakdown in comm. between the police dept. and bowl officials. BPD wasn't told (or didn't ask) about the high ticket sales until it was too late. I'm assuming they planned for avg. attendance. Cop out? Perhaps. But that's what I've been hearing.

Any large event at Legion Field is going to create a traffic mayhem. There are only really two routes to take (there are others, but the majority only take two) and parking at the stadium is very limited. Most people who arent familiar with the area try to park in the stadium parking lot with the parking nazis who move with no sense of urgency. This only makes traffic around the stadium worse.

RE: NBR: Compass Bowl
The vendors didn't have enough food (or weren't able to produce enough of it fast enough to meet demand) and merchandise for the game (Bowl T-Shirts and Ole Miss stuff) sold out before kickoff.

That said, part of that is risk-reward, as it's partly based off of last years numbers. Still, they should have had more merchandise for sure...that's a missed opportunity for them.

I enjoyed my experience, both food and game-wise. I didn't think getting in and out of the stadium was by any means worse than games I've been to in Auburn, Tuscaloosa, and Oxford. Just some worse surroundings.

On a side note, here are some Ole Miss fans checking out what Legion Field's environment has to offer:

I agree! Who ever is over that type of stuff over at Legion Field has to get better at that stuff. This is the second time within a month that Ive gone to a game out there and the concession people were not prepared for the crowd. The concession stands on the home side ran out of hot dogs, and nachos twice and ran completely out just after halftime. Thats something that definitely needs to be addressed.

To their defense, they had no idea of what to expect in attendance.

It's not like they have that many people at Legion Field on a weekly basis.

They had to know because they have been talking for weeks about how many tickets Ole Miss has sold. That number was like 41, 000 before the start of last week.
