C7 Meeting Tomorrow (Fri, Jan. 4)
http://www.courant.com/sports/college/hc...3614.story

Quote:The presidents of St. John's, Villanova, Providence, Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall and DePaul are scheduled to meet in New York. The non-FBS schools announced last month they were leaving the Big East as a unit and will form a new conference.

The agenda for Friday's meeting will likely focus on an exit strategy and time frame. The schools are also expected to discuss a future television/media package and potential expansion targets for the post-Big East league.

According to conference bylaws, the schools will be held to a 27-month exit window. But the group might negotiate an early exit with the remaining Big East schools (UConn, Cincinnati, South Florida and Temple).

USA Today:

Quote:Although no major expansion plans are expected to be announced, the group is expected to announce that it has reached an agreement with the remaining Big East schools to leave the league a year earlier than originally stated, with a start-up date of July 1, 2014, rather than July 1, 2015.

EDIT: Ya beat me, Jet.

Thems the breaks unfortunately. They tried to leave us high and dry with the CUSA schools coming in, so now they have to deal with the fate they tried to leave us with.

I'm not talking about all their sports, I just want their Men's Basketball Program. You might say that they are simply using them but it works both ways, we are using them just as much as they are us. We get the benefits of their top BBall Program for a year or two, they shop around until they land somewhere else.

I think the league would lose some credibility if they had two members leave after only a year or two.

I hope so too and I hope Creighton is part of the mix but I think most of the information that will come out of this meeting will be about the separation from the old league and not the future of the new league. I at least want to know if we are looking at 10 teams or 12.

RE: C7 Meeting Tomorrow (Fri, Jan. 4)
heres my take

step 1: find a leader
step 2: decide on exit date
step 3: formally invite new members
step 4: work out tv contract including location of mens and womens bb tourney
step 5: settle on conference name. this step could come sooner but it isnt necesary to reach other steps

dont think we'll get to step 3 tomorrow but id like to

Well apparently membership will be discussed. Prob first official talks about it see what everyone is thinking. No real decision but see if there is a consensus for any team or idea of how many.

Membership could and should be discussed. The bottom of the Catholic 7 is in a sad state this season. From a credibility perspective, we need the new names to buoy the losses of Villanova to Columbia, Providence to Brown, Depaul to Gardner Webb. Go grab Butler, X, and Gonzaga C7!

No Gonzaga, to far west. I think we just become a northeast/midwestern conference.

I'm really torn on this. Gonzaga is THE biggest fish out there(not including Cincy and UConn, who I don't think have any shot).

We look at Gonzaga. Bottom line, if it's doable, we do it, get XAvier and Butler and stop at 10. If we can't do it, we can't do it. It's a lot to ask the nonrevenue sports to haul from Spokane across the country to northeastern cities, and vice versa.

On the other hand, no one would think twice if North Dakota joined the Big Sky and teams had to haul it from the eastern edge of ND to Eastern Washington. Although I guess that's not fair, Souix Falls or wherever to Spokane would be the longest trip in the Big Sky (or close) and the shortest trip for the ZAgs.
