I disagree. He is a fool if he is not listening to his employees and concerned with what they think in their areas of responsibility.

What if that employee might not be around much longer?

Seeing that you must post multiple times on ever single thread, I can't keep up with stalking you. Do you ever post anything positive or are you always a grump ?

No, go back and read that thread from start to finish...you took a good positive post from a friend of mine and ruined it, AGAIN.

Still foolish. It effects the corporate culture negatively and workplace morale. It also sets the employer up to fail. He doesn't get the information he needs to make good decisions. The military model of authoritarian management doesn't work very well in today's society.

RE: from Rob Fischer on the ut/Memphis series
Here's a proposition that will never happen:

Arkansas, Tenn, Ole Miss, Ms. St. agree to rotating home and homes in football in exchange for yearly games in basketball. Memphis would get two sec teams at home and two on the road each year in football and basketball.

Too much SEC? kick out Ms. St. and do it with three teams with only one SEC football game a year.

It'll be real hard for SEC teams to do it in football. Home games are such money cows. I know Arkansas' situation with two games in LR every year and playing TexA&M in Dallas every year starting again in 2015 with home and homes with TCU, Michigan and a home game with Texas on books for the future.

Arkansas' agreement with LR expires in 2016, I don't think anyone thinks it'll keep two with another expansion of Razorback Stadium in the pipeline. Many wonder if it'll even keep one.

Goodness.

So what!!??

Stop turning everything into something bigger.

You mean the new AD and the coach may still discuss something???

And that brings out all this crap?? This is not a story here.

RE: from Rob Fischer on the ut/Memphis series
Bowen is the AD and ultimately decides the schedule. Of course he gets input from the coaches but he makes the FINAL decision.

Someone on another thread made the observation that the series extension may have looked bad yesterday and Bowen mentioned to Pastner "It doesn't look like it'll happen". Pastner then ASSUMES the series will not happen and makes too many comments in the exchange with Calkins. UT AD Hart then calls Bowen to give on a key criteria Bowen insisted on. Bowen then re-opens the negotiations.

Then we have this blown up all over the media.

Needlessly, but this is the MEMPHIS media and they thrive on creating controversy.

I'm sure Pastner and Bowen spoke again; this is why Pastner talked about "re-evaluating" the UT series. I bet that is EXACTLY what Bowen told him. THe series is being re-evaluated.

Not signed yet. Still work to do. But looking better than yesterday.

Now, IMHO *IF* this turns out to be just another 2 or 4 game BB series extension and no FB game(s) tied to it...yeah, I'll be pissed. I hope Bowen insists on the following:

One uncompromising point is for every 2 BB games, there is 1 FB game.

And the first FB game is in MEMPHIS in 2018.

And you still owes us the 2017 game here.

My offer is MEMPHIS will sign a 4 game BB series starting in the 2017-18 season and going for 4 consecutive years. First game in Knoxville.

The FB side is this - UT fulfills that 13 year postponed game in fall 2017 to END that contract. Then the new 2 game FB series starts in fall 2018 again in MEMPHIS. The FB game in Knoxville is in fall 2019 OR whatever year fits their schedule.

Take it or leave it.

Yeah, one of those deals where we play in Knoxville four times and UTK comes to Memphis once, sometime in the 2020's. Meanwhile, we play home and home with UTK in hoops every year.

The days of the men's basketball coach telling the AD what to do ended when Calipari left.

After seeing names like Ricardo Patton, Steve Lavin, Tic Price, Steve Robinson, Johnny Jones, Tim Floyd, Leonard Hamilton, etc being the focus of our last few coaching searches, it looks like the future candidates might be even LESS attractive.

I didn't think that was possible.

RE: from Rob Fischer on the ut/Memphis series
Quite frankly, I loved the baseball series two seasons back where Memphis and Arkansas played a midweek two game series with one game Little Rock and one at Autozone. That should happen every year and it boosts the Tiger diamond program. Baseball is a revenue sport at Arkansas. It virtually pays for itself if the weekend conference games have good weather.

Just looking at the series since 1980, it looks like Memphis only had to do the 2-1 thing once. Memphis talked Mizzou into a home and away series. Do you see a reason why the AD would set us up for a bad deal?

now without a football deal...screw it.

Agree.

Don't be shocked if the the Big East-SEC challenge (if it continues) gets an Arkansas game on the schedule.

I thought I heard that the Big East-SEC challenge ended this season, and the SEC was now talking to the Big 12 to do a challenge.

Oh well. Arkansas seems to play OU every year in BB anyways and Texas has been on the schedule often here lately. Wouldn't be a shock. I'd like a little Kansas action.

this isn't an arkansas msg board
