my take on everything orange bowl
Well as an alum of the year 1974 and watcher of college football since 1964 when I saw Dick Butkus at Illinois with my brother 8 years my senior I would have to say this is one of the more exciting and fun times I have had. I've seen OJ at Northwestern in 67. Hanratty and Seymour in 67 at Illinois. Sam Bam Cunningham in 72 at Illinois. Sonny sixkiller at Illinois. John Spillis from NIU in 68, and just to cast a reflection on Herbstreit and his stupid ass comments. Someone should say about how his buckeyes surely did not belong on the field with Florida and LSU in those contrived artificial pairings of national champiuonship games a few years back where they got their butts handed to them by scores of 42-13 both games. I mean they surely were not a worthy opponent in either game. We were more competitive than those fiascoes so Herbstreit should apologize not for just being a dick but for urinating on NIU 's place in the sun for a day as a David going against Goliath Florida State. Loved the game and that circus atmosphere of Sun Life and the paragliders landing, and that loud ac dc music was all cool and the jumbotrons only bad part of whole adventure was the long walk from sun life to 320 arizona st. about 11 miles I had to make taking from 1230 to 430 am that was exhausting and I kept praying no nasty person was going to jump me walking along university avenue and Hollywood boulevard back to the Hollywood beach hotel. Tried to thumb my rides back had huskie cap and tshirt hoping someone would notice and offer lift was prepared to part with the 25$ I had for the 2$ cost of the gas going 11 miles there but alas no good samaritans came to rescue but also glad I didnt get beat up, robbed or killed. Now I have long 38 hour greyhound bus travel back to bloomington illinois awaiting me, ina few hours. Saw Toledo, Kansas, and Florida State this year and though they lost this one was far more exciting and actually satisfying. Hope you all had good experiences too. Peace to all and God bless Dave 1974
