I think first year coaches get something of a pass. Criticism, yes, but with some limits.

To whom much is given, much is expected...That defense has got to show vast improvement next season, period.

That tactic has not worked out very well for the previous examples whoso far have never gotten back to the BCS level. It may be that the top recruits they used to get are now not interested in playing for them at UTEP, UCF, or any other program that might be named so they fail to get the great records it takes to climb back. Did I overlook some coach who did make it back and I forgot him?

The only example I can think of that compares is Mike Price, since both he and Price "fell" from the top programs because of personal off the field issues. However, Price never proved himself at a really big program. He did well at Washington State, but that is not the same as even Arkansas or Louisville.

Other "has beens" are guys that did great, but then failed and got fired for not winning enough. Petrino was never in jeopardy of losing a college job for not winning enough.

Correction: Maybe O'Leary applies. But he has done well at UCF.

he took washington st to the rose bowl TWICE. that would be like someone taking Kentucky to the sugar bowl twice. other than that he was a real threat to watson browns record of the most losses for a coach with a losing record

Then, 'The tide is rolling baby, the tide is rolling!' I refer to that era as the golden age of UAT football.
