We JUST got home last night about 9:30....exhausted but so glad we made the trip. I had a few of my own thoughts & some personal experiences etc. I wanted to share so I hope nobody minds.
We had never been as far south as Ft. Lauderdale, so that itself was a lot of fun. Palm trees, coconut trees & flowers & bushes etc. blooming in Dec./Jan? Wow!
We spent Dec. 31st afternoon at Dania Beach Pier. All of us got into the ocean and enjoyed playing in the huge waves. After that, we had lunch at the restaurant on the pier where the mayor of Dania Beach (who owns the restaurant) personally welcomed us & thanked us for coming & wished our team a win. He was a Gator BTW.
Everywhere we went people were very nice and TONS wished us good luck.
Lot 10 with so many Huskie fans and board members all in one spot was super cool.
HuskieBob was able to make so many of us feel welcome & part of the group. Thanks so much for allowing us to join you and the group in tailgating & with our tickets!
We "found" Mr. William Baltimore outside of the stadium & brought he and his group to lot 10 to join us. His son is redshirt freshman DE Matthew Baltimore. Dad & group made the trip from KC. Nice nice people and he was happy to be a part of Huskie Nation and plans on making as many games as possible.
We left Ft. Lauderdale on 1/2 for a flight thru Atlanta. We were lucky to see Mrs. & Coach Joe in the airport...they were on our flight. We were able to chat a bit and Coach Joe told me that GW is considering coming back to NIU for grad school. Coach thinks the football team would be lucky & happy to put GW to work helping out.
Everywhere we went ...on planes, in restaurants on the way home, in the airports...people talked to us about NIU. It was a very heady experience.
Despite the loss, I will never regret making that trip. Our team must hold their heads high. What an OUTSTANDING season...NIU HISTORY!!! And the exposure for NIU is priceless. I mean PRICELESS. People who never knew we existed...now know about NIU Huskies.
I am looking forward to our future. GO HUSKIES!!!
