Great inside look at the preparation for the game, and interesting little insights about recruiting from a process standpoint. So much insight in that article. Now I understand why Daniels was used less than expected.

I'm sure the paperwork will clear on the new DL coach any day. Looks like Tripodi got the promotion we'd expected. I'm sure Carey will be a popular man among the young assistants at the coaches convention. And maybe Kane takes on special teams duties.

Now maybe will stop thinking of Carey as a bumpkin.

Great article enjoyed every word.
One question: "After a lengthy meeting, the offensive staff emerges and tells the players they'll emphasize screens in the second half...''
What happened? The screens were there all game and we're a great screen team.

I wonder who got into the tussle with the OB official. That must have been a little awkward.

Great read!

I liked this...
Quote:In the staff meeting, Carey tells the assistants about the foundation Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher established to fight Fanconi anemia, a blood disease that affects children, including Fisher's son, Ethan. Carey wants to make a contribution and invites the assistants to do the same, although it isn't mandatory.

and this...
Quote:The seniors are up next, and Alan Baxter reminisces about how NIU used to be excited for six wins and a bowl appearance; how it went from a solid MAC team to one that made history; and how the chip on the players' shoulder from being overlooked in recruiting separates them from their competition.
"We've made two coaches into millionaires," Baxter says, referring to Minnesota coach Jerry Kill and Doeren, who cashed in after their success at NIU.

Good article, but I broke my resolution by reading the comments. I forget how many ignorant jerks there are in the world. Now I'm cranked up again.

I like to imagine it was Compher. Had to have been someone with some status, they wouldn't have just any old staffer into the hospitality suite, would they? And it would have had to be someone the OB official would feel comfortable running their mouth to when overserved.

Great article. Too bad Scott Powers didn't get to write it, you know, the guy that actually mentions us and gives us the time of day during the season.

Not sure when the last time I saw Scott covering us...in the last month covered more HS basketball than NIU anything.

At least they got a local guy to do it. Rittenberg was with the Daily Herald for a while

Yep they sure did make 2 coaches into millionaires. I hope those coaches APPRECIATE that.
