Because the MAC wants to pad our schedule it seems.

I think we also host Akron and I seem to think that @Miami is the other game.

Home against Akron, away against Kent State.

RE: 2013 Crossover opponents?
SO...the ONLY MAC team that has a week 2 opening is Kent St.

I can't imagine that the MAC office (what ESPN tells us to do) would let this game be played in week 2 instead of November.

I would expect one of the teams that are on our schedule to move their FCS games to a different week so that we can play instead. If there are no takers then we will just get a bye week (2 bye weeks in 2013 and 2014).

True...MAC East division champ has typically had a disappointing following season.

And what...join the B12? We would have to have this seasons production for 5 more years along with HUGE stadium improvements and donations to be on par with even Iowa St and Kansas football programs.

The BE is looking South first and even if they did call us it wouldn't make sense unless several MAC teams came with us...like Toledo and WMU/Ball St/Miami.

Toledo and Miami are not options as long as Cincinnati is in the conference and WMU has little to offer the BE in terms of TV market or big football.

That being said I hope that SD St, Houston and SMU all leave for/return to the MWC as that would open East of the Mississippi a bit more for some regional consolidation.

RE: 2013 Crossover opponents?
It is wayy toooo early but I would think Ohio is the early favorite to lead the East next season so not playing them during the season is probably the best. They play Louisville and then a pretty soft OOC schedule with a lot of talent coming back. If we take care of business and the they do as well then that would set up the MACC nicely once again.

I think the MAC should be poaching the Big East.

Boise St already announced that they are staying in the MWC.

Houston & SMU have an invite to the MWC now also.

Boise St wants SD St to also stay...no reason for them to go to the BE now.

Really? You want Temple and UCONN football in the MAC? Its not like they are going to join all sports.

Secondly joining the MAC would KILL all of the progress that Cincinnati has made in the last 10 years.

Buffalo's program is worth a good amount to the MAC.

Big TV market and only non-AQ FBS (non military) school in the state.

Wouldn't that be the Big West again? That worked out well last time...

EMU is the team I really have an issue with. Too many underwhelming Michigan teams in the MAC and I just don't see them rounding the turn in either of the most visible sports - football and mens hoops. Their fans tout success they had 20+ years ago but times and the college landscape have changed significantly and I just don't see how they can be consistently competitive in today's environment playing in Ann Arbors backyard. If we added UMass all sports and dropped EMU to get back to 12 teams the MAC would be so much better. I can live with Akron as I think Bowden will get them back on track and his name alone will get them press if they start winning. Plus they have cred in mens hoops. Buffalo is a market with academics (AAU) and we would lose our New York presence. We wouldn't really lose much by dropping one of our Michigan schools and it would split the revenue pie one less way.
