I would be shocked if they sign TH as the backup.
It's a different deal to sign someone to the PS than to the the 53 man roster. They can sign any other QB off of any team's PS right now. So that is the pool in contention. Also they could make a trade for a #2 (unlikely). I'm sure they already know their target(s) before this trade. We'll find out soon enough.

There are only a few QBs on practice squads. Doughty and Grayson may be the most likely. They may just sign Hoyer who SF released. Maybe a trade they have in mind.
By the way, in searching the PS rosters, I found that Larry Pinkard is back on Jaguars PS.

Hoyer seems likely but why subject him to waivers then? He could be included in trade

The Tom Brady interview was interesting. Not convinced he thinks Jimmy G getting traded was a huge loss. On another note, Jim Gray is not good.

Per his facebook post, Keenan Palmore will be playing professional ball in Indonesia this year. In the same post, me made nice comments about ODU.

Guessing. Reports had Hoyer as part of the trade, but because of compensatory picks at stake, the Patriots wanted him removed from the trade. I think this allows the 49ers to cut him (which they did) and the Pats to sign him (unless, of course, he gets a better offer).
