Good one.

How so, the poster was noting that UTk might not sell out the game, and implied that real fans should pack the house regardless of the opponent.

I simply asked if that person (or you for that matter) have been to the FEF this year. It is safe to say the fans are not packing the building. So (like UT) are you saying Memphis has poor fans?

Can't have it both ways.

Reported attendance for Louisville game: 18,392.

Fed Ex Forum capacity: 18,119 (per wikipedia).

I was at the game, you weren't.

There were about three sections almost completely empty. (229-231).

Even with that sellout (ticket wise) Memphis' attendance has been subpar, which begs the original statement that the HOME team, not the opponent, should be the measure of fan support.

So Memphis SOLD all our tickets and were still not near capacity. UT has an entire 10% of their tickets unsold, I'll allow everyone to connect the dots.

I guess it is your mission to try to counter every thing I write.

Ok.

Someone posted this:

Quote:Still have 2000 tix left unsold. A cryin' shame.

I wrote back it is hard for their fanbase to get fired up to play a fringe top 100 team.

So then some other joker pipes in:

Quote:So, the lack of a sellout Friday is an indictment of the Memphis program, not Tennessee. Got it!

I responded:

Quote:Have you been to a Tigers game this year?

Even the UL game wasn't full.

And to the point, the game wasn't full. There were several section sparsely populated.

They can "announce" whatever number they want. I judge it by who is in the building. They have been "announcing" 15/16K for the other games, but what I see is 12/13K maybe.

There are a lot of things to mock about UT, but their attendance (19k for the Memphis game if no one else buys a ticket) is better than Memphis', was better last year and OUR fans have not been coming out as much this year.

Which, in any event, just goes to the simple point:

Quote:So, the lack of a sellout Friday is an indictment of the Memphis program, not Tennessee. Got it!

Same principle. People show up more for the "good" teams and less for bad teams. More people were at the UL game than the APSU game despite the home team being the same. It is not, then, an indictment on the visitor, but the home fans.

Correct?

I wrote the original "cryin' shame" comment. My initial comment was an indictment on the pathy of UT fans for this miatchup. That's why I respsonded when you claimed that the Louisville game was less than a sellout.

Never wrote that.

The FEF wasn't full. That's what I wrote. If if conteded it wasn't a sellout, I would have written, "Memphis couldn't even sell out the game."

But that is why I wrote that it wasn't full.

I saw about 20 seats vacant at the Louisville game up in the nosebleeds. Dude must not go to the games much to say Memphians aren't going to the games. 01-wingedeagle

I don't think you're going to win this one. Talking about empty seats goes against the grain. Probably be BBS suicide to mention the phenomenon of being able to hear a pin drop after Josh's intro these days, 'cause, you know, that's not happening either.

Yeah...you are wrong on this one...

The demand for Memphis tickets were 100%...Yeah some people who bought tickets didn't show for Louisville and their tickets when unused...There are some fans who just aren't going to go to some games...But that is not because there weren't people who wanted to come. Big difference

There was at least one section that nearly empty. Up by the upper student section seats. And our attendance has been low this season. It's embarrassing, really.
