Boise staying in MWC. Key is home games not part of league TV deal, will be sold separately although league gets revenueExpand

SO no the league did not sell itself out other then letting ESPN have full access to Boise games and letting BOISE cut CBS out of the PIC from getting all of their home games

https://twitter.com/DanWetzel

That makes no sense. None.

I'm guessing CBS okay'd this special arrangement?

Yes as part of contract restructuring. See my previous post.

If the MW/CBS/ESPN did this for BSU, I wonder if they will do something similar for BYU to return to the MW?

RE: MWC official announcement on Boise staying
Here's how Boise's TV works:

ESPN will buy all of Boise's home TV games (like they do for BYU). The revenue will still go to the conference, but will be split something like this: $300K per team for being on TV, plus an extra $200K per team for being on a Saturday broadcast (ESPN). So basically, Boise will get $300K-$500K per home game, plus whatever else they can make by being on TV for the rest of their schedule in the conference. Boise's games will be a separate package form the rest of the MWC contract, but the revenue will be rolled into the conference.

Read into this what you want, but it seems that the Big East TV deal would have been less than $4M for FB-only with Boise. I shudder to think what ot will be without them.

I'll take your word for it.

Wow how messed up can it get. Aresco saying nothing. I dont get it. He could not deliver and it all started because of Maryland. I hope they get hosed for the 50 million dollars for being greedy.

Everything that has happened to the Big East since UMD left the ACC has proven that the ACC exit fee is reasonable.

Maybe the BE should've done/should do this for BYU.

No you're not. I can only watch BSU when they are playing away games. The HD makes it worse for me. I really wish they go 'green' and you can do a lot of blue outlines to keep the ' blue' on the field.

It's a shell game, they have their own deal, to say otherwise is just being silly

Could be tougher for BYU, at least for '13. Too many existing game contracts to break/restructure.

So the MWC whored themselves out to Boise. I doubt uneven revenue sharing in today's world is a good recipe for conference solidarity. This alone might keep SDSU out of the MWC as well and allow the BE to poach teams from the MWC. Who knows?

I would just as soon San Diego State stay. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Losing a school to the ACC or B1G is one thing, but to the MWC? Good lord.

Let's face it, the Homers were wrong about the value of the nBE football and the debbie downers were right.

What?????? The Big East that Boise left for is not the Big East they wound up with. The value of the Big East was fine until everyone left.

What the debbie downers understood is that because the nBE has not been fine, and has not been worth good money since WVU, pitt, and syr left, others would continue to leave.

It will be a while until we learn all of the details.

It will probably be a case where CBS pays the same amount for everything, but they will give a price for Boise's home games. Boise wil get all of that, and then everyone will split everything else. It's a unequal revenue sharing plan that will kill the MWC before it even gets off the ground.

I'm not sure the BE wants to go after UNLV or Fresno, but if they do, how in the hell do they say no to the BE versus living with that agreeement? They would make more money in CUSA for that matter.

The capacity for denial on this board is quite amazing at times. It's like that knight in Monty Python that keeps getting his arms chopped off and says that "It's just a flesh wound." The MWC schools aren't going anywhere. SDSU is going to end up begging for the MWC to take them back. The TV money that Aresco has kept selling publicly isn't there, which is why Boise was willing to go back. I don't know why so many people haven't been taking this threat seriously - the TV money isn't there, guys (or at least Boise and C7 didn't believe Aresco's numbers at all).

Most of the infor regarding the deal with BSU/CBS/ESPN/MW is coming from tweets. But so far, I'm liking what I see for the MW. At first glane, it looks to be a hell of a lot better than what we had.

That's hilarious. So you are saying that if the tv numbers were there, Rutgers and Louisville would have stayed?

Are you saying that the C7 would not have left if they could have made more money in the BE?

If that's what you are basing your statement on, just give up. You really dont get it.

I seem to remember ESPN providing a very nice TV package for the BE which was not "good enough" for the schools presidents in the conference. If anything ESPN is not the blame it's the presidents who for their lack of knowledge and prediction of the future brought this conference down all by themselves.

The funny part to me isn't posters from Cinci or UConn, but some on here from ECU and Memphis talking so much crap the last few months. Thinking you were going to pick and choose your schools. You guys and Tulane are the reason the BE lost its luster.

If the C-7 were looking at substantially more dollars in the NBE than outside it, we wouldn't have gone anywhere. We didn't go anywhere when Syracuse, Pitt and West Virginia bailed.

The timeline says we didn't go anywhere until the ESPN window was over and numbers started coming in from the TV networks.
