RE: ULL VS UALR GAME THREAD
I am disappointed we lost, but not surprised. I voted ULL in single digits. Sorry I was right. We're scoring enough to win, but unlike teams from the past, we're not very solid on defense. I have confidence Steve will get that worked out before too long.

ULL VS UALR GAME THREAD
We shot about 30% and they shot 50%. You don't win doing that and they have sucked in fg % all year. Rough night. Shake it off and move on to the next game.

Bring them on. We need to play games. We are young and at some point we will turn the corner. We have several kids that can score. It is ft's and to's that are killing us. With game, time all that stuff will work itself out.

But we shot fairly well from the line and minimal turnovers tonight and still got beat by 8.

They shot 50% from the field. They dont average anything like that.

Play some games and learn how to rotate and defend.

So much for lock-down defense.

We locked down a loss. I guess it was just one of those nights on the road.

Stats
The shooting percentages tell the story of the game. Just too big of a discrepancy for good play in the other areas to make up.

We had ten players with at least 12 minutes. Ordinarily that would be too many. We may be investing in the future here, but we do need to figure our who our best 8-9 are and ride them if we are going to have a chance in the conference. And I still would like to win the division, and I think we can.

Rebounds, turnovers, free throws. We did well enough in all three fo those to win, but you can't shoot 16 percentage points worse than the opponents and expect to make it up.

Just a huge night by Will. Definitely looked a first teamer last night. But even he could not hit a 3-pointer.

Josh Hagins is coming on. If he can play like he did last night on a consistent basis, his minutes will go way up.

RE: ULL VS UALR GAME THREAD
I heard just the last minute or so of the game on the radio, and I know at least two of Will's three point attempts were desperation shots at the end of the game. Might have been all three. I'm not sure. But he's certainly not on his three point game, but maybe that will come around soon. He had a terrific game otherwise.

I'm so damn sick of hearing every year, "just wait until next year." That's all we've heard since Shields has been the coach. I realize that this team is young, but whose fault is this? His teams are always young, but, "just wait until next year." I remember that Platt used this phrase constantly, "we're growing." The only problem was that most of the other teams in the league were growing faster than we were.

I think it is true this year, but you are right, it is getting old.

RE: ULL VS UALR GAME THREAD
Bob, I think we can make a run in the tournament this year. We have to be getting better every game at a faster rate than the other older teams.

We have 2 fr pg's that look like real players

We have wn 1 more year and javes and gus for 2 more years. james white for 3 more.

Does anyone not look at that and think we are going to be good for a few years with that core of players?

bob, if he can't win with that hand then it is time to move on.

Then we should expect Shields to win the tournament next year, right? We've heard the old "we're young" or "wait until next year" practically every year he's been the coach. You can fool me once, maybe twice, maybe even three times, but seven or eight times is too damn much.

I guess winning division titles means more to most people than it does to me. Sure, I'm glad we've won them, but when we back into the tournament championship, we get beat in the "play- in" game. I know some of you will say we went to the NCAA tournament, but again, "play-in" means you have to win the play-in game to actually be in. I guess you could say we were right on the "bubble" though. To me it's like being in the finals of the high school state tournament, and lose. You're not the champion. You lose the play-in game and you're not in the NCAA tournament.

RE: ULL VS UALR GAME THREAD
The play in game pays a tournament share and the winner gets to move on to the 16 seed game and get another share for their conference, so in a way it is the game to be in if you are a 15 or 16 seed.

We did win the SBC tournament. Can't take that away from him.

Steve has a nice core of players lined up for the next 3 years. All of us see that. It is on him to win.

This group has an NCAA tournament appearance in them or they have under achieved at least 1 time in the next 3 years.

This group has a out right regular season championship in them over the next 3 years.

This group has a NCAA tournament 1st round game win in them too.

If Steve can't produce one or two of the above in the next 3 years, we need to all move on.

I wouldn't say "expect" to win any short tournament, but I think we should be one of the favorites, if not THE favorite going into it.

RE: ULL VS UALR GAME THREAD
Sometime in the next four years (by Gillon's and Hagins' senior years) we should win NIT automatic. That is what I judge a coach by way more than the conference tournament. With this group Shields ought to be able to do that. If he doesn't, he should be called on the carpet.

I guess some of you are just easier to please than I am. I've been a suffering fan longer than you have I guess. There are several here that have been around longer than I, but as I said, evidently some of you are easier to please than I.

Sure I've said before that this is the deepest and perhaps the most talented team from top to bottom that we've ever had here, and they should get better, although not many of Shields players seem to improve much, but the other schools are still going to be recruiting too. They aren't going to roll over and surrender. You can never count Western out as we found out last year. Even when they aren't very good, they're usually better than the rest. It should help some getting rid of Middle and North Texas. Maybe we'll win by default, most of the good schools are leaving. Don't know much about the new ones coming in.
