I'd like to see the series continue. Maybe not every year but every two to four years, home and home. We don't need to be playing anyone year after year at their place. We ended that with Bama, we sure as hell don't need to start it with Tulane.

1. Loved the Battle for the Bones.
2. The Memphis basketball game is the only game we can pack the house for every year.
3. I liked have the C-USA tournament at the Fed Ex Forum...just not every year.
It was also an easy drive for fans from both programs and both cities offered plenty to do for families. The football series should have caused more excitement for both programs as it extended a natural rivalry between the cities that started in the WFL. The basketball series speaks for itself as a case could be made that it is the premier series in the conference. I'll miss both for those reasons.
(12-29-2012 12:14 PM)58-56 Wrote: Playing memphis in basketball always brought the excitement, and it'll be sad to be without that game. But it's understandable; they wanted to renew their annual in-conference rivalry with Louisville and play teams like Marquette and Georgetown on their conference slate instead of Tulane and SMU. So their fans now have exactly what they deserve.
As a Tiger fan I'm not sure what I deserve or don't deserve. I'm not sure what that even means.
The Louisville series in basketball and football will be a big loss in this process as both drew attention, crowds and emotions from the two programs. I'm the odd man out on the basketball only schools, with the possible exception of Georgetown. Other than their potential ranking, I didn't have any attachment to Marquette, St. Johns, DePaul, etc. However, most Tiger fans feel differently than I do about losing those conference games.

5856, I suppose you guys "deserve" to go 0-12 and start up rivalries with first year D1 schools?
How's that work?

ECU. it sucks that (unless something dramatic happens) we won't play them ever again.
. . . and I was beginning to genuinely enjoy playing houston, although we didn't play them every year . . . but when we did, it was always a throw down.

ECU vs USM needs to be an annual battle REGARDLESS of conference affiliation in football...PERIOD. As for Memphis, I'd like to see them still in basketball for sure (not sure Black & Blue will happen often). Both for baseball would be great as well.
not gonna happen. that's just not the way OoC scheduling works. once they're gone, it will be a decade before we play them again, and then it will be the odd home and home series. think louisville.

Yeah your right Tulane would have had to win several games against and an opponent to get a rivalry going.

I believe that was misunderstood because of the nature of the emails shown in the dead spin article. Tulane had a game scheduled in the dome the same time we were trying to set up the nebraska game and for everthing to work we needed tu to move kickoff of theirs.

As an ECU fan Southern Miss and Marshall. Great history and connection with both schools. Would be very happy if we end up conference mates again in the future.

UCF vs Marshall in football AND basketball.
As the only 2 football teams coming to CUSA from the MAC and with Marshall winning all 3 of those MAC games vs UCF...and then UCF beating Marshall in the first year in CUSA to end a 17 game losing streak...the football games were almost always good.
Add the improvement of Marshall hoops when Donnie Jones took over for the Herd...the hoop games became intense...and then multiplied by 1,000 when Donnie Jones left Marshall for UCF.
Thats why I selected UCF vs Marshall...because its the only rivalry that had any type of real history before CUSA...and how the rivalry/hatred expanded into 2 sports.

No doubt. I will miss playing USM in all sports and UAB in basketball.
I was also developing a healthy love/hate for Marshall (mostly bball).

USM will get a good payday for a short trip and a probable win.
That's a pretty smart move. I just wish ECU and Southern Miss were closer to each other so a non conference game made as much economic sense as it does competitive sense. Unfortunately, gate dollars will bring an end to this series most likely, but I would like for it to continue. Also, will miss the Marshall games.

RE: Old C-USA Schools which Rivalry are you going to miss the most?
USM - Have always respected USM, long before UCF joined CUSA. It still bugs me that The Rock was the one CUSA destination I wanted to visit the most, yet something always came up to prevent me from going.
Marshall - I have attended 4 of the 6 games UCF has played in Huntington, including this season. I will probably miss this series the most simply because I enjoy going up there. With this series ending, and my brother and his wife selling their "vacation" home in the area, this past season might just be the last time I ever go there again. The basketball series also was a nice surprise into how intense it became. I didn't expect that.
Can't say I will "miss" anyone else all that much, but I enjoyed playing everyone to one degree or another. After everything was said and done, I managed to visit 8 of 11 CUSA opponents. Was able to scratch Tulsa off the list in this last championship game. USM, SMU, and UTEP were the only ones I couldn't get to. I tried, though.
Of course, with 5 fellow CUSA members moving to the BE with us (or whatever it's going to be called), it's not going to be THAT big of a change.

Tulsa, and the lack of rivalry there despite the importance of our series, is an example of why these silly "national conferences" are terrible for college football. Biggest downside to the big east IMO / but at least we are getting USF. (Speaking of rivals)
I would be a little slower to speak if I were you because you aren't looking too smart with that post. If I remember correctly UCF found themselves in an overtime game against a team that would go 0-12 and a team that usually beat them. I think you should feel a little embarrassed to bash other teams so freely when your team wasn't exactly as great as you think.

Agree 100%. I think Rice-UH will keep playing across the board, like when Rice was part of the WAC and UH was in C-USA 1.0.
But Tulane was the C-USA program I was most excited about, and traveled east many times for baseball and football games in New Orleans. I hope to see the Wave on future schedules, but I just doubt it happens. Not much reason for you to play another game in Houston, and not a lot of room on the Rice schedule if we keep playing Houston, someone from the Big 12, a service academy, and a like-minded academic institution (that's the opening, but we are scheduled well into the future with Wake Forest, Northwestern and Stanford).
And SMU - I doubt we see the Ponies again ever unless we meet in a minor bowl game somewhere.
I get what might have been with the Big East, but the money just does not seem to be in place any longer. The privates should have held together.
