Estate taxes are the lowest and most despicable form of theft. It is just grave robbing using the force of government.

The concept in a way is distribution/sale of assets of the deceased. I thought if it was a family run farm/business there was a deferment/exemption of the estate tax as long as the family continued to run the business, but the basis of the property/assets did not get the step up.

The step up in basis for most people outweighs the taxes paid on large estates. Yes, I think a million is to low.

What alternatives does anyone offer who is against the estate tax to account for the transfer of assets?

How about they're just transferred without a tax? Why does there need to be a tax on everything? Don't the living pay enough? Never mind, I'm sure you think we don't .

Hasn't the tax obligation on that money been met already? Because it stops being someone's and starts being someone else's, the government gets YET ANOTHER slice?

It is nothing more than legal extortion. The idea that one works hard and leaves an estate to their family to better their lives without the the government getting it's tribute is inconceivable to the thugs in Washington.
