This board, its people, and the implications thereof...
Over the last few weeks, everything about this board seems to have deteriorated: the accuracy and relevance of the posts, the level of civility, the writing ability of the people posting... etcetera. I'm even seeing a lot more stereotypical internet crap ("let me Google that for you," "Cool story bro," and such) than I was accustomed to here, and, relatedly, people's signatures are getting more and more MySpace-worthy every day.

The three biggest offenders, in my experience, are USM fans, ECU fans, and LA Tech fans... not necessarily in that order.

My opinion of all three schools has gone downhill this football season. When I see an ECU fan criticizing someone else's attendance, or a Tech fan running down ULL, or a USM fan making yet another post about "our record against the defectors," it really makes me want to vomit.

All three of those lines of argument are easily dismissed. ECU's attendance? If you've ever watched ECU play on the road, you might think they must fill Dowdy-Ficklin using either free tickets or holograms. Tech's academic dominance over ULL? Twenty years ago the gap was much bigger, and one risks mockery even lining up such a slug race. USM's tradition? Largely masturbatory in nature and earned against a lot of teams who have figured things out since then (and are now extracting brutal revenge).

I really wish these three fan bases would just shut up now. I wonder what the ECU fans are even still doing here. And I marvel at the ability of USM and Tech (two supposedly fanless programs) to mobilize internet tough guys at Howard Stern-like levels.

Did you guys ever think about maybe going to a game and exercising all that bravado there?

I don't really have a point here, except to put up a big fat disclaimer for anyone reading this board casually:

WARNING... No one here really knows what they are talking about.

What do ECU's road games have anything to do with anything?

So in summary, you don't like it when fanbases that don't like each other say bad things about each other? Maybe sports message boards aren't the best place for you.

La Tech?

Maybe I missed something there, but the rest I can agree with.

OK... so no one agrees with any of this, except that Big Dub gives me 2/3 credit.

I therefore conclude that you find the following topics to be good, uplifting, and entertaining :

* Your school's poor football attendance

* How "none of us will ever" [insert meaningful accomplishment here].

* The minute details of a number that will range from $900,000 per annum up to $12,000,000 per, depending on which troll you believe.

* The world- shattering discoveries made at Harvard's Ruston campus and the comparative stupidity of people from Lafayette

* Excruciating details about the huge differences between FIU and FAU. (At least we agree on the FU part.)

Personally, I think about 90% of what's been posted here since Tulane and ECU got their bids has been misinformation, wilfully inflammatory, or both.

I perceive a discrepancy between the way ECU fans talk down to everyone here about attendance and what I saw Saturday here in New Orleans (and earlier in the year in Hattiesburg).

If you're going to mock USM's attendance (32,000+ real butts at our most recent game, none in purple) then be prepared for a rebuttal. I'll preface this by saying it doesn't matter TO ME, but apparently it's a big deal TO ECU.

ECU got embarrassed thoroughly by ULL on every level. I walked into that dome fully prepared to yell loud for you. But everything about the contest, from the fans to the goddamned marching bands to the actual play on the field, told me that ULL was the superior institution.

That game was a road game for both teams. If your fans really couldn't make it, then your fans are POOR and you'll never get anywhere as a result. You like that? No? Well at least I'm on the right board, you toothless ****.

I don't enjoy pointing this out. But you and a few of your comrades basically spend your time needling us on this board.

And notice that I was studious about calling others out as well, where warranted. Your posts, on the other hand, don't have much nuance. Your feelings of superiority are unambiguous.

I didn't disagree with your initial comment in general.

I just have a difficult time categorizing all fans in a fan base in one cubbyhole.

Even attempting to ignore the knucklehead comments aimed at departing, entering, or remaining members' fans, I do agree that it's not been fun here for awhile. I suppose is to be expected in a major split where 50% of its members are departing.

I don't know if you were around in 1997 when we beat you and then tore down our goalposts... but that's when I started using the word.

I can't say everyone is one way or another... but I do think that enough people fit the three descriptions I gave to make them useful.

There is also a cadre of USM pseudo-fans who claim to be happy about staying in CUSA, and they annoy me, too... there's a lot of overlap between them and the "look what we did to the defectors " crowd. We're talking about two slightly different autoerotic techniques yielding identically pathetic results.

He's been on one ever since the first expansion teams were brought in... "Woe is me! The Sky is Falling! We're DOOMED!".

That's been the majority of his posts ever since that date.

No, actually I think the thread where Tallgrass believes that the CUSA Conference Championship should be played on New Years Day takes that cake.
