I would say dayton has failed to perform to the standard it should over past 10 years. Many dayton fans will agree with me that winning games against "BCS" teams OOC and then going 9-9 in A10 play is not acceptable.

However, this boards perception of the possible incoming schools is crazy. At least 4 of the 7 C7 schools haven't done much of anything past 10 years. All 7 of these schools would have been labeled mid-major by the media whether you like it or not had they not had the many BE schools to prop them up. Now that they are gone the A10 teams that join up with the C7 will get a boost from their mid-major status but the C7 is going to be down graded from high major status as well. It's a fact of life. None of us are OSU, Kansas, Cuse, UNC, etc

If we make the right picks, we can make the case that, as a basketball conference, we (and the NBE) are right up there with the Big 10, Big 12, SEC and above the PAC. With Butler and VCU, we'd have 6 Final Fours in the last 10 years, vs 9 for the new ACC, 6 each for the Big 10 and Big 12, 5 for the SEC. I don't have the Sweet Sixteen numbers in front of me, but Xavier throws 4 of those into the pot. With the C-7, Butler, VCU and Xavier as 10, there's a very good chance of putting half the conference in the NCAA's in any given year, another "elite basketball conference" marker.

Shorter version: We do not plan to forfeit a d***-measuring contest with the power conferences.

Yes, bringing in X and butler is a no brainier. The last team to get in if its a 10 team league will be a tough choice. I feel like a 12 team league will be needed to truly become a power conference. Right now 4 of the 7 C7 teams will be below X and butler. Bring in vcu and I believe they will also be top 3. If dayton, slu, or creighton get in they will be mid pack in the new conference. This brings it back to this conference cannot be considered a high major conference without X and Butler. If you need to bring teams in to make the conference high major then that means most the C7 schools are not high majors.

I will not get into which ones could be considered because I have a different opinion on what classifies a high vs mid major than the next person. There is no standard to justify it currently. ESPN brought about this whole idea and its a load of sh*t. As I've already stated dayton is not a high major, I'm just tired of football/BCS conferences teams automatically being considered high major when many couldn't compete in A10/Old CAA/MVC year in and year out as vCU, Creighton, X has done

Dayton vs. BCS including the Big East....

Copied from our pre game notes:

CONQUERING GOLIATH
The Flyers have been powerful against the power conferences. Dayton is 19-8 in the last six years against BCS programs. Dayton’s 19 victories have come against Ole Miss (thrice), Alabama and Auburn (twice), Boston College, North Carolina, Minnesota, Illinois, Louisville, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Marquette, Cincinnati, Seton Hall, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh. BCS BUSTERSUD has won its last seven versus the SEC and the last four against the ACC. The Flyers have won 10 of the last 13 overall and five of the last eight games against BIG EAST opponents. UD is 3-1 this season with wins over Alabama, Boston College and Auburn. The only loss was to the eventual 2012 Charleston Classic champion, Colorado.

I look forward to the possibility of what this conference will look like, but don't underestimate the A10 teams. I just hope enough solid A10 teams join to truly make it a power conference. Whether its the new A10 or the new Big East it needs to include at least 7-8 post season contending teams. There are 3-4 Catholic 7 schools and 4-5 A10 schools that fit the profile.

I posted this in another thread, but Creighton is the highest rated team of the bunch this year in the Ken Pomeroy Ratings by a large margin. I miss our series with Creighton. Those were always hard fought tight battles. Take the Top 3-5 from the MVC, A10, and the C7 and tben you would have a conference.
