For Kane to be staying, I would imagine he's going to be at least recruiting coordinator. Maybe even ST coordinator or co defensive coordinator.

Is is odd for the best data source to be a recuit? Not saying right or wrong, just seems odd to me.

Consideing he had McNutt, Coach U, and Friz leaving before any of it came out, I trust him.

And since Kane has been the one recruiting him, I especially trust him with that.

Does this mean that Carey is waiting until after the bowl game to announce his staff? I guess this can give us something to look forward to after the bowl game.

N.C. State just announced the hiring of former LB Clayton White to the staff, so it's pretty clear Kane is staying.

So staying we have Carey, Nieman, Cole, Kane and Tripodi, plus the strength coach. That's pretty good.

I hope the one l in tel was intentional haha.

And yes, I think if you lose your HC and you're still able to keep half your staff (including both cooridnators) you've done well for yourself.

I think DD deserves a little credit for that too. He could have completely raided the staff like Kill did and other than Carey we wouldn't have been able to do much about it. I think he threw NIU a bit of a bone (with the exception of Kane, who I think is staying because he's getting promoted).

Kill and DD's staffing situation was a little different though, Kill had his staff for many many years before heading to Minnesota, many of them were with him at SIU.

DD just put his together in the last 2 years, not as much loyalty, and Doeren has many other contacts to get "better" coaches.

I understand that. Believe it or not, I really wasn't trying to take a shot at Kill there. He's always had the same staff, I don't blame him at all for taking them all (sans Tuke who wanted to stay). I'm just saying I think DD helped us out a bit. Two of the coaches DD took with him had only been with him for a year (Coach U, Friz). He only took 2 offensive coaches and 2 defensive coaches and left both coordinators. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

Having both coordinators back is huge.

With the strength of this season, we could easily have seen this much staff turnover even without a change at head coach.

Good point there.

We're really fortunate to have as much of a truly great staff back with us.

Have to be careful drawing conclusions. They are good coaches and some could be lured away by programs other than NC State after the OB. Assistant coaches in big conferences can earn more than MAC head coaches.

RE: Kane Staying; All Assistants Who Left Replaced Already
Staff moves: At least three Northern Illinois assistants will be joining former coach Dave Doeren's staff at North Carolina State following the Orange Bowl. Frisman Jackson (wide receivers), Ryan Nielsen (defensive coordinator) and Mike Uremovich (offensive line) will become members of the Wolfpack staff, according to N.C. State.

"We couldn't have kept this staff together (for the Orange Bowl) if Dave and I hadn't been in constant communication," Carey said. "So I give a lot of credit to him on this. And I have talked to him about this team. He was our head coach this year. He led this team, he set tones. He did those things. We're 12-1, so yeah, I leaned on him and I am going to lean on him."
