I feel like some people don't believe in bettering yourself and getting rid of dead weight. I knew Tulane, UAB, and UTEP were like this, but why should FIU have to settle just because the guy has a "name." Hats off to FIU for wanting to be better than 3-9!

If you're referring to the MHerald when you say 'people', then you should know that that paper is basically a PR tool of the University of Miami. There has not been a hire nor fire (nor anything else for that matter) that has not been overly criticized by that paper for as long as I can remember (going back to the late-80's).

And yes, it is an uphill struggle fighting against the U and their PR machine.

OK he had 2 winning seasons (15-11 over those seasons) That is not a record that screams progress. Maybe an obvious lack of judgement was the final, but not only, straw.

Considering MC took over an 0-12 team, riddled with sancations it is an amazing job that he got them to a bowl game in 4 seasons. And he actaully coached FIU to a bowl win over a decent 8-4 Toledo team. FIU was favored by 3 over Marshall in the bowl game last year and most thought they would beat us.

Like I said I think PG thought he had his coach in his pocket and when that didn't happen he didn't have a back up plan.

You may be right but how happy would Herd fans be with a coach who's record's were: 1-11; 5-7; 3-9; 7-6; 8-5; 3-9. Not saying he did not face difficulties but there is no 9- 10 win season there. The record is good but not stellar. Attendance dropped 26% from 2011- 2012 (I think this may have a lot to do with his firing). Rumors of scandal. Just saying there is likely more going on with MC's firing than we know about here in WV. I agree the AD looks somewhat foolish by not having someone "on deck".

How does anyone know he doesn't have someone on deck? Perhaps he has made an agreement with that person to wait until x date to make the announcement so they receive some upcoming compensation or complete their prior engagement.

FIU has already basically turned away Manny Diaz (Texas DC) and Houston Nutt; so those are some pretty good names to release from interest without something being held in reserve.

I would not brag about turning away Houston Nutt. The guy is not a hot commodity in college football.

Did not mean to offend you... the point is those not involved in the decision making process don't know why MC was let go (or for that matter I guess) what's going on with the hiring process. Mine was only a comment about appearances. Apologies

I have to disagree, the man is an awful coach and it would be a horrible mistake for FIU to take him.

While noone else is looking - you do also realize our record vs. Leavitt and that we're playing FIU the next few years, right?

Jim Leavitt went 95–57 before getting fired. He constantly had USF in the top 25 his last 3-4 years there and beat a lot of great opponents OOC. Also Leavitt was a good recruiter (much better than Skip Holtz). He stole players from Miami, Florida, and FSU every year, and recruited some big time players....Jason Pierre-Paul, 5* RB Mike Ford, and others.
