RE: NIU and Nebraska Sign 2-for-Soldier Field
I had never heard about states mandating FB schedules... What a country will live in- right? UI wants no part of this deal, we play them tough... Would a game like this be at SF via nutral site or would we get to make them travel?

Thanks to Nebraska for playing us.
NU and Illness despite being supported by Illinois tax payers you refuse to play the top FB program in Illinois.
Illinois let us have our accounting and computer Science pHd program.
Play us on the field and stop hurting us off the field.
Let us become a 30 000 student University and establish a rivalry for the top public school FB program in the land of LIncoln.
That way High school kids from Illinois will chose you over Notre Dame. NIU/U.I. yearly rivalry will be like U.IOwa vs IOwa State, Stanford vs USC
it will make Illinois into a relevant FB state again. Ever since the University of Chicago stopped playing FB, Illinois FB has lacked any intra state rivalries.
Intra State rivalries get State fans excited. Florida, Texas, California, Iowa why not Illinois. Illinois legislature should mandate that U.I plays against NIU 5 years in a 10 year period minimum or every year. That way Illinois FB might become relevant again.
P.S. They also save on travel expenses for fans and the Universities.

Northwestern is private, not state funded. And I'd prefer the state legislature figure out how to get Illinois out of debt rather than wasting time legislating which college football teams should play each other. Yet another thing government should stay out of.

Firstly NU is a title 2 institution- meaning they accept state funds.

Secondly schools that watch their budget save the State money.

Thirdly playing in state schools will save both schools and fans on travel expenses.

Fourthly You believe that College Presidents of Big 10, PAC and other AQ conferences should be allowed to deny a 16 team playoff which would raise 5 times the amount of money? (but take away their control over the BCS system) Did you vote for any of these University Presidents?

Fifthly we vote for the President of the USA and State representatives and as tax payers should have a say how Universities spend their money
and yes who they play. If Iowa Legislature passed a law forcing Iowa U. to play Iowa State why cannot Illinois do they same? It is what the voters would like?

They did that in Michigan.

That is how CMU, WMU and EMU are all getting home games with MI St.

I don't think that they should be interfering with FB scheduling though.

And to repeat in Iowa: Iowa vs Iowa State.

Games will NEVER be played.

NIU will not be able to fit it into their BIG EAST schedule.

Playoffs are not decided by college Presidents but by performance.
We have them in NCAAB and in FB at every level accept Div 1a.
America is a democracy where performance for the year should trump name and fan base. Perhaps you wish to argue that the NCAAB playoffs and Div 1aa and other playoffs are un-American???

Is Presidents of AQ schools mandating FB schedules more democratic then a state legislature mandating an intra state rivalry between Title 2 schools? Do you vote for any University Presidents? You do have the right to vote for a State legislature or a President of the USA?
If the wishes of the American public is to be respected, who should mandate FB schedule?

In the last 20 years, they've played 4 times. This doesn't look like "refuse" to me:

1992: ILL 30 - NIU 14
1994: ILL 34 - NIU 10
2001: ILL 17 - NIU 12
2010: ILL 28 - NIU 22

BTW - The Illinois Athletic Department is not supported by Illinois Tax Payers.

Yeah! Another SF game to not go to.

To each his own. My wife and I will be there to cheer on the Huskies and spend a fun weekend in Chicago. These games are great mini vacations for out of state alums, a great way to energize our Chicago area alums, a great opportunity for the players to play on a big stage and a great way to help fund coaches salaries.

GO Huskies!

All games were at Illinois. In the last 12 years we have played twice.
4 times in 20 years does not constitute a rivalry.
The University of Illinois is supported by the tax payers money and therefore the athletics dept. is indirectly supported by
taxpayer revenue. Maybe you are advocating an athletics program without academia?

You're right, not refusal. Just very disinterested.

I'm sure the married members of the board can relate to this very scenario.

Yes they can. Once they horseshoe in the south end zone and expand Huskie Stadium to 40,000. The real question is if we close Stadium Drive for the expansion or cantilever the stadium over the road!

The fitting into schduleand being in the Big East was in light of all the Big East talk.

And actually, the day NIU ever gets 40k in seating, it then becomes...

I liked the old stadium
Too crowded
I was here when we sucked, these people weren't
Too many drunks
I don't like the look of the stadium

whatever it is, someone, somewhere won't be happy

Any idea how this deal is structured? Like the Iowa games or the Wisconsin game? Iowa had incentive to sell tickets, Wisconsin did not.

Well said.

Can't say enough how big SF games are for recruiting. Compher has said he wants each four-year recruiting class to have at least one game at SF.

I don't think the Chicago Area alums have been energized by these games at all. We had poor turnout this year at SF, and they certainly didn't show up at Huskie stadium either.

No one claims a recruit picks NIU just because of the SF games. But, it's one more reason for the recruit to choose NIU.

That may not be the ONLY reason, but it does help. Makes the program more attractive to a similar level team. It motivates the players and they VERY much look forward to it. Especially the ones from Chicago.

Take my word on that.

Illinois does not have student mandatory fees for their sports program like NIU does. NIU students must pay a sports fee of around $520 a year. Illinois students do not have a sport fee but buy their own sporting event tickets.
