RE: What is missing from this area?
I don't know about those specifically selling ice cream, but DQ has opened back up in Gardendale.
The former owners of DQ in Gardendale weren't happy with the franchise fees associated with the company, so they decided to become independent.
Well, after a few months of this independence, they had to close shop.
Now, they tore down the original building & built a new DQ in the same exact location.

I wish the DQ company would open here in Pell City. The old site is a used car lot and their projected new location nearer I-20 never materialized. Jack's did build on the old Miller-Sutherland automotive location. We now have to make do with our Sonic location.

Either there or the parking lot across from the park on 18th Street, perfect spots for a D&B.

There's actually plans for there to be an ice cream shop built into the Baron's stadium. It will face RR Park and be open when games aren't going on and will also be accessible during games from inside the stadium.
What are the "hot names" in ice cream purveyors in today's market. I noticed that the Bruster's on 280 is now a Krispy Kreme shop.
I haven't had Baskin-Robbins in years!

I wouldn't look for that Merita Bread building to go anywhere, as several companies are bidding for Merita's assets. And (I think) I heard that parking lot is owned by Alapowco and that they are selling it to a developer. Might be a different lot though.

What about the empty lot facing 1st Avenue North between 14th and 15th street across from where "Sears" used to be? I'm also curious as to how the city's going to contend with the parking issue for the new baseball park once it opens up.

The city has signed an agreement with Children's Hospital to use the Children's Deck (the northern most one, with the metal panels, not the one on University/7th Ave) for games that occur after 5PM.
